HAha cheers may steer clear of a demo
I personally would not touch a demo R! A Mazda CX-9 or Toyota Kluger? Yeah fine, but not a performance hatch. I've seen how the sales guys drive them never mind test pilots. The last time I had one they were begging me to do a few launches in it. I didn't. Get a new one or at least one that has only had one sympathetic owner. Ask them how to do launch control (assuming a DSG) if they look blank then you're off to a good start. If they say that they've reached their 200 launch limit then walk...
Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.
Current:- Amarok V6 Sportline; Mazda CX-9 Azami AWD
Previous - Mk 6 R manual; Mk 7 R manual; Passat 130 TDi Wagon. Mk 7.5 Wolfsburg Wagon.

Reminds me of a Renault sales guy trying to sell me one of his last GT220's.
Weekend race driver, gave the CAR HE WAS TRYING TO SELL ME an absolute bootful around suburbia, trying to shake my teeth out or wet myself or both. I swear, the front tyres were starting to butterfly.
"You got another one out the back that I can have? Err, no thanks then."
Currently driving a 2018 Golf R Grid Wagon (DSG) in Lapis Blue.
My wife drives an i30. She is understandably grumpy.
Haha,I'm guessing it's a bad idea then.
2006 MkV 2.0TDI -> 2005 MkV GTI -> 2008 MkV R32 -> 2013 Polo 77TSI + 2016 Mk7 Golf R Wagon
Definitely yes. I pick up mine tomorrow.
2017 Mk7 R with DSG, sunroof, diver assist package, etc, 6 months old. Not a demo.
One careful previous owner, VW Australia company car.
There's still a few around. Seems a bargain at sub $50k drive away.
Dunno whether its done any launches.
YMMV
Edit. Sadly, my fully original 2004 V6 Bora will soon be for sale. Genuine 78,000 klms. (Thats NOT a typo)

Nice one!
definately been flogged then =P but atleast its just by 1 person .
however, they are built to have done to them.. enjoy its a great car !
having had mine for nearly 3 years now and 100,000+ km .. still runs like a dream.
speaking of launch control im yet to do even 1 in mine... keeping it stock and not something that i really even think at its current power level... also not sure if the lack of launch control is to do with it running mechanically well for so long now or just the quality of the car in general.
also. dont forget to top your oil up regularly coz it burns like a mofo and CASTROL edge is probably the fastest burning oil on the market. use spec 504 , 507 PENRITE enviro+ (always available at supercheap) or SHELL HELIX oils, this will save you going through stupid amounts of CASTROL that VW specs as OEM. the castrol is so bad that my mechanic changed away from using it after i was complaining how bad it was... burnt so quickly after a service from them or top-ups from my own bottle , they said they had other people complaining about it too.

I’ve bought ex-manufacturer run cars before and they’re generally looked after better than dealer demo cars.
As for oil, I’ve not seen mine (albeit a manual) burn any more or less oil than any other cars I’ve owned. I check it regularly and whilst it consumes some it’s not very much and I certainly don’t need to top it up between annual services.
