It appears it will be released with a Performance Pack option. I wonder if that will exceed the idiotic Luxury Car Tax?

Is the new 7-speed wet clutch DSG the same as the Audi RS DSG? If so, it might then be good enough for me to consider it.

As far as I can tell it's same as the Audi S3 and most likely RS3 clutch plates may vary in the RS3. The new 7 speed is wet clutch as was the previous 6 speed. The 6 speed is proven over more than 10 years in the GTI, Diesels etc. I've had the 6 speed DSG first in a MK6 diesel and now MK7 R 160,000km in total without fault. The 7 speed should be as good or better.

Cool. That's interesting. My main reason for enquiring is about functionality rather than reliability.

I've found that the RS gearbox has different behaviours. The R gearbox is more nanny state and I find that I regularly get 2 gears on a shift (as I shift at the same time as the car) or it decides it knows better and shifts early, particularly when it decides to downshift and engine brake when I want to roll through the corner on the torque.

Talking to some friends who have RS cars, theirs don't do that.

It's the behaviour that turned me off buying a DSG car (plus I enjoy manuals anyway).

After I installed the JB1 I had Hardings TCU tune it delivers exactly what your after, in S mode it's much more restrained and won't change down on part throttle letting you use the torque more often through corners as you mentioned. I cannot comment on the 7 speed will see when it arrives.
