Just had a couple of buddies from the US raving about finally getting their Golf R7's...but...they lose out on LED rear lights, stop/start, ECO mode, manual trans (2016) and a few other bits and pieces I can't remember right now. Anyway the point is, if here in Oz we think we got it bad for lack of specs, imagine how pissed they're!

Are you talking base to base? From memory when I looked at the US spec they had to make the base model pretty bare to compete with local manufacturers. Correct me if I am wrong but in terms of specs, pretty sure they get a lot more options compared to our DSG/MT, Leather, Sunroof and ACC.

Edit: namely I am pretty sure they get the option of a 2-door

I asked about a month ago and the only thing the dealer knows is that VWA was negotiating to get it.

Would be great if it came here. Would also be keen on knowing pricing. $60-64k?

My understanding is they really are only getting a very basic version - minus the LED tails and other goodies. There is a 'premium' version which adds sat nav (still on the crap screen), DCC and 19 inch Cadiz. Only the five door for now.

As for DSG/MT, their order was like ours - first batch was DSG, then the MT to follow.

Their market is a bit different and they needed to get the car to slot in under the $40k price point there. The S3 lists at $41k; a CLA45 $48k. This isn't to raise comment on USA v Aus pricing as their loads of other factors at play - it is simply to provide a reference point to VW's problem there.

You may be right and to make the R competitive over there, makes sense. I'm being informed of this stuff as it happens helping friends where I can. What is available and associated wait times for special orders is apparently very very frustrating and they've told me the R's they've actually seen don't even have the satin finish side view mirrors. Sad, because the US seems very excited based on reviews.

Oh well...at least we can enjoy ours with at least a decent spec!

I would have liked Lane Assist and the auto park, option of Nappa/Vienna leather, DAB+ radio and Dynaudio.

But if I wanted all that I would have bought an Audi...
