Can't fault the service I received when buying the car, they do make you feel a bit more special than VW but I suppose you pay for that . The Merc double clutch box is also infuriating but the engine pulls like a train. Can't get anywhere near the claimed fuel consumption figure as well. The manufacturers must know how to manipulate those figures but always found the GTI's MUCH closer. Just need to off load the Merc now! I think driving dad's superb S3 made me decide to not tolerate the Merc any longer. Looking forward to driving the R and GTI PP tomorrow.

If people want to buy a Merc, stay with the traditional ones, like the C or E. These new little ones look like crap so why would you bother?

Audis are getting a bit annoying as the whole range looks the same. The S3?.....you could be driving a cute little A1 for all I know. Go for the GTI or R!

........hopefully you won't suddenly get warning lights appearing on the dash.......that really ****s me with VW

    LOL!

    Franjae,
Couldn't agree more about the Mercs. I've had friends with C and E class. Solid as a rock. Magnificent build quality (although they even dipped a bit about 10 or 15 years ago) with the ML series built in the USA. My A class adventure has been a failure. Goes to show you should always pay attention to what motoring writers have to say. I think I only found one you tube video with a raving review, and that was an A 45.
You certainly get treated well by the Merc sales staff and after sales service is exceptional.
Also agree about the Audis. Particularly the A3, they look even closer to the old model than the new Golfs. Both cars are exceptional but a lot of people won't realize it's a completely new design.
I'm getting a new GTI Performance. Gave me a great deal on a car already in stock. I've forgotten what compliant suspension felt like!
I'm just hoping that I don't have electrical issues like I did with my Mk 6 GTI from day 1. The service team at my local VW were very good though and I could tell that it was head office blocking them from replacing parts until just before my warranty was about to expire.
Can't wait for the GTI again.

At the risk of getting thrown out of VW forum, have you considered new Skoda Octavia vRS?
Same engine/drivetrain/suspension (?) as GTI Performance, but much roomier and more fruit for way cheaper $
Some pretty unique and sexy rims for you "wheel-ofiles" too
I have a "R on stilts" (aka Tiguan) and am seriously considering one of these for my next purchase......

Tiggy, I drove an RS sedan and was frankly underwhelmed (I was considering an RS wagon as a family wagon to go with my MK7 R). They seem to have lost the engine/induction/turbo sound very quiet, no DSG farts, a ton of road noise, firm ride (no std adaptive dampers) and interior trim and finish sub par and tacky (apart from the outstanding 8'' Columbus sat nav that should be in the current GTI/R!). No dead pedal on for the R foot/leg unlike the Golf which is a deal breaker for me as its so comfortable on long trips. All these negatives plus poor resale for not a whole lot cheaper (unlike VW Skoda do not have corporate fleet pricing so whilst you can negotiate down with Skoda, corporate pricing plus extra negotiation with VW gives outstanding pricing).

Was it the Mk3 vRS? My understanding was that they had the adaptive damping?! Admittedley I haven't driven one as they are pretty scarce (especially up here in the sticks)......
