It is pointless to compare negotiated driveaway prices for the R and S3, because one person's negotiation tactics and circumstances are not the same as another's. Your best bet is simply to compare based on the published retail prices (including published dealer delivery, duty etc) and go from there. And that gap is substantially less than $9,500.
But it is useful information when going in to negotiate a deal if you know what others may have been able to achieve.

It can also depend on a particular dealers situation as to how far they are prepared to go on any one day. Some days they may need the number to achieve a target/quota and other days they may not need the sale as badly.

I have heard of dealers making a paper loss on a deal just to achieve a sales quota/rebate.

Any time they need your cash more than you need their car is a good time to do a deal.

Good work Dr K, nice price. Worthy of consideration by all.

Given DrK obtained a confirmed deal of $61.3K in Victoria, there is a $9.5K difference here, which is in the ballpark that I had predicted and stated in my previous posts (for Victoria).
Mikey1 suggest you try Audi dealers out of Melbourne, great deals being done out of ACT.

This is true, but we're not talking about negotiating tactics here, we're comparing the relative value merits of the S3 and the Golf R. In this context, you're much better off leaving any individual discounts you've personally managed to achieve out of it. Then, once you decide which car represents better value to you, you negotiate the best possible deal you can on that car.

The point I was illustrating ref my father's deal is that it's entirely possible to get a good price on an Audi, just like it's possible to get a good price on a VW.

Don't rely on getting the same deal as anyone else on the forum as it will come down to the negotiations.

Yeah i am aware of that. I will most likely not do anything but i am just saying if i got the same price then i would highly consider it.
Anyway just emailed my dealer and see what he says.

I found that phone and email is less effective means of negotiations, face to face is much better, they seem to give your the proper pricing if they know you are keen to sign on the dotted line vs just fishing for a price.

Yes i agree, but the difference here is that i emailed my dealer that i just ordered my GTI off, delivery is in 2-3 weeks and he knows i am keen. I am yet to hand over all the cash, so yeah see what happens.
If i get a good vibe from him then i will go in and have a face to face discussion
