Not fussed about sunroof or Park Assist 2 - if you can't reverse park a bloody Golf you shouldn't be driving a car!
I'll try the leather before I buy but tempted by the active cruise.
Does the Mk7 have memory seats? I hate it when my wife drives mine. It takes about a week to get the seat back were I like it. If leather has memory I will take it.
Will see what stereo options there are. Looks like aftermarket subwoofer needed again.
I've mentioned previously that other wheel options, including 18" Cadiz and 19" Pretoria wheels might be available as a dealer supplied accessory, but the cost would be prohibitive unless you can negotiate an exchange for the originally supplied wheels before taking delivery. As the dealer will end up with set(s) of slightly used 19" Cadiz wheels, don't expect to get any discount on the vehicle. On the question regarding memory seats, MkV & VI Golfs have never had them even when the driver's side electric seat option has been chosen. This is a fundamental flaw as electric seats are pointless without memory capability.

For anyone interested, there are a few Golf R cars available for sale right now in NZ. My local Christchurch dealer has this one for sale:

    Volkswagen Golf R 221kW (300Hp) 4Motion 2014 | Trade Me

18" Cadiz wheels are standard in NZ. The above car has optional heated, electric, leather seats and is for sale at NZ$75,740 (AU$71,466 at today's rate). I'm guessing that's somewhat more than you'll be paying in Australia!

Full NZ spec sheet here. I see the Discover Media Pro is an option, at a heady NZ$2,750! Fully optioned, the car's list price is NZ$90K! Standard spec manual starts @ NZ$68,500 + ORCs.

Correct me if I'm wrong but that's about a $15k/25% premium to the NZ GTI (which is DSG)? If applied to Australia that makes that R around $55k equivalent?

Have to say looking at the pics the new golf R looks boring! Like really boring! The mk7 GTI even looks better, Prefer the outgoing R model look, maybe change my mind when see one on the road but personally wouldn't be rushing to pay $60's for it better value getting a end of stock 13model BMW 135i for $70k d/a

I'd take the room in the Golf any day, as quick as the 135i is it's far too small, and that front end is not great at all.

Regarding the NZ pricing, keep in mind their GST is at 15%, although I don't know what other duties/charges they carry.

I totally agree. I also think the interior of the M135i is the most staid and cheap looking of all the premium hot hatches. If it wasn't for the most entertaining drive train, nobody would bother with this model.

All the negative comments regarding the boring appearance of the new Golf R only reinforces the design philosophy of VW which believes in evolutionary and not revolutionary change. If you want the last word in style, VW is not the brand to seek inspiration from.

Can't agree guys, don't get me wrong I like VW quality cars but the R Styling is mega boring in those pics & the chrome in the grill what the hell are they thinking, especially with all the competition in the market if I'm spending $60's it's got to look as good as it drives & we all know VW's drive nice, the R is a drivers car yet they have designed it for a grandpa, look forward to seeing a white one with panoramic sunroof, leather & black rims, possibly will look better then current picks & will change my opinion.

Just keeping it honest, the styling is boring but final judgement will be made when I actually see one optioned

Fascinating! The Discover Pro as an option is cheaper than the aftermarket quote I've had (~AU$3k installed but without maps as they're not available in AU yet). Glad to see the Dynaudio is available but not on the R? I've been tentatively advised it'd be about $4k installed to get that into an Aussie car aftermarket as it'd require several days and a complete rewire. They've got the MDI standard, too.

Would have quite happily forked out the extra coin but obviously my Australian dollars are no good in Germany....
