I'm not 100% on the GTI PP launch - there's no pricing/info on the PP on the VW website so it may be the pricing is being released at the same time. Perhaps this is just because the dealer didn't have any GTI's left and just parked the PP out the front...

I believe the dealers are going to be driving/training on the PP at the same time as the launch of the Golf R (along with the Golf wagon which has been out for a little while too).

You have placed an order and received a delivery date, but you can't possibly have an agreed price yet, or do you? BTW, congratulations on your specification and extremely fast delivery time. Annoyingly, I have to wait until Q3 or Q4 to receive my almost identical order with manual transmission. My pre-order contract will be torn up if we don't agree on price, and I will be pushing hard for a good deal. For those following this thread, it's clear that members are flocking to the Audi S3 in droves for different reasons. On this basis. Volkswagen dealers should be grateful when Golf R customers come knocking on their door.

    Okay, so here's the deal.

The PP is already in stock at many dealers, has been delivered to customers, and can be ordered in NADCON. It's as good as launched.

The R will be orderable in NADCON from April 12, and pricing will be released at some time on or before that date (as decided by VWA). Dealers will be receiving stock and selling/delivering the R shortly thereafter.

"Official Launch" dates are pretty meaningless in this context - it's got more to do with brochures being printed and dealers having been trained than anything else. The key dates you care about are when the dealers will have stock, and when the cars can be ordered.

Volkswagen Group Australia must be one of the laziest car company's in Australia when it comes to new model pricing announcements. Mercedes-Benz, BMW and even VGA sister company Audi, release pricing details of all new models weeks, if not months, ahead of launch.

Just spoke to my dealer. The ship with the first customer cars docks in Sydney on the 17th. Expected delivery is 7-10 days after that.
They are going for their dealer training day next Friday.

The dealers I am speaking to are varying the 'estimated price' by as much as $3k or so. They're suggesting I put down a deposit subject to pricing, but methinks that doing that restricts negotiating for the best deal. Am I right in holding off, or would it be wise to wait? Anyone had this dilemma before?

Unless you're desperate for a vehicle and want to guarantee supply straight away I'd be inclined not to put the deposit down just yet. If it's purely a holding deposit that is refundable without questions then I guess not so much an issue.

There is obviously some pent up demand in the first shipment but given the extra competition around now I'd assume a lot of dealers will be open to reasonable negotiation fairly quickly down the track.
