That's tough to cop them before the country trip.

Unfortunately darker colors are softer so do chip more easily. I'd rather live with them though than most front end solutions and aim to go for a professional touch up now and then.

Some people say the clear wraps on the front end can deflect the smaller stuff and stop it going through the coat?

Just washed the car yesterday and noticed quite a few chips. Will see what the cost is and decide if it’s worth to fix and or wrap. Any Melb suggestions?

There's only place I'd take my car to in Melbourne, my mate at Dan's Garage.

Having said that, I don't think he does film wraps specifically although just checking, I note he recently worked on an AM Vantage that they had a section wrapped prior to correction and coating - so he no doubt would have recommendations.

He does charge a premium (for a premium service), but in the overall scheme of things I found it worth it on my S3 a few years back.

Took the R up on the Hume to Albury over the weekend and I have to say it was the first time I really felt like ACC was worth the money paid for DAP. Made the trip so effortless - in actual fact, even lane assist seemed to do a pretty good job when I test it. I do wonder if it could've done the whole trip without intervention if it hadn't been programmed to alert the driver after a few seconds!

On a separate note, the car is in the shop atm to sort out some more rattles in the front driver and passengers doors. The VW tech has acknowledged that they are there and they can replicate them, so hopefully this will be the last time I have to take it in.

Although the loan car (poverty spec Golf) seemed to have similar problems, so who knows.

Considering going from the MY14 103TSI Highline to the R wagon (DAP+roof+leather on current and on new, plus dynaudio). It's probably a bad decision, but I'll test drive one next week and see how bad this decision really is.

My current wagon has the bi-xenon lights with dynamic cornering. This includes the cornering light when indicating and turning - something I sorely miss whenever I drive another vehicle. Is this feature available in the LED lighting systems? Are the LED lights as good as my xenons or am I going to be taking a step back here? I see there's no fog lights on the R (sigh), and this is usually where the static cornering lights go which augment dynamic cornering. Did they fit these in the LEDs?

I'm also told that there is no windscreen wiper fluid indicator on the 7.5, owing to the absence of bi-xenon (and no legal requirement to include it as a result). Is this true?

I note that there are no under-seat drawers available on the R. Is this due to the fitment of electronic seats, or is it possible to get some retrofitted and is just VW slimming down the range?

It's a big jump - I went from a 2015 Highline to my Grid and I'm pretty happy overall.

Infotainment is quite a step up too

If you're worried about resale, headlights, washer fluid and under seat space then it's a bad decision.

    Otherwise it's a great choice.

Having said that, the R headlights are dynamic.

The l.e.d lights are fantastic super bright
They have a corner light in my model (,alltrack)
The only issue i have is that the normal beam is set to low so will get it adjusted next service
The highbeam is brilliant i get reflection from road signs in the middle of the day when i flash people for speed cameras
At night it lights up the road for miles
