Hi all, been following this thread/forum for about a year now and have just placed my pre-order deposit on the R. According to my dealer the only options I was asked to provide/set preference against was Colour, 19" Rims, Leather, Roof and Drivers Assist Package.
Apparently Sat Nav, Adaptive Chassis Control, Keyless Start etc. are all standard, unless they're saving the surprises till the car arrives.

Will be a travesty if it doesn't come with the 8" discover pro as standard.
I'm just really interested to see the drive away price less options. See how close they put it against the S3
Based upon past behaviours of VWA I would expect a 3k reduction in the Golf GTI and the Golf R to come in at 53k + ORC

In NZ, the Discover Pro is an NZ$2750 option. At least it's available at all; the 5.8" display on the Discover Media is seriously low end and a significant downgrade from the RNS510 units. I cannot option it at any cost to the wagon which is irritating.
VW's Golf R a very potent hatch - Motoring - NZ Herald News
Sounds more aggressive than the S3 but the little voice in my heading is screaming 'FAKE!'
Was just talking to my old man who inquired about the R for me in the hunter valley as Darwin is hopeless. He said that the wheels report about the cars arriving in April/ early May are correct and that the VW dealers are going to training days about the car in the middle of March.Excitment levels are starting to rise now!

I can't hear so much with my B&O playing Bach. I'll turn it down and report back.
Joking aside, that does sound like its on eleven. From the outside the s3(8v) sounds like an 8p or 6R with upmarket pipes. Inside (8v) it sounds like shuey is driving. It's fun, but it's not real. No way is 206kw the number. I don't know the physics of all this but I had an 8p and and 6R and the 8v is a quantum leap. I chipped both it's predecessors. I had a drive a couple of years ago in an ISF and it felt and sounded the same had a hundred more kilowatts and a bit more weight. I'd love if someone could explain all this to me.
The s3 is great so far.
Have fun
