If the R's 60k on road then I'll be scooting off to the S3 a snip at just $5k more! I suspect i won't be the only one either.

I would think you're right on the money there Andrew7, if you compared previous models also, the S3 had a better list of inclusions too, so if the Golf R comes in at $60k, and have to tick a few options, then the difference in price could be very minimal.

Plus the S3 comes in hatch and sedan, you don't get that choice with the Golf.

That might be so on carsales, but if you drop by an Audi dealership you can get a base S3 Sportsback for $66500 drive away, and that's without negotiating and better deal.

Same with the MB A45 AMG, most listed on carsales are in the $110k, all because of the popularity of the car and its availability or late off.

Which makes it approx 7% off Audi dealers drive away prices, and that's what I've seen as what most people have been able to negotiate, and the deal is even sweeter for those who can get corporate discount too where they get free servicing for the first 3 years which is approx a saving of another $1500.

This was taken from the uk forums. Definately worth a look at this site rforum.co.uk and go to the mk7 r section

Got me a bit over excited now!

I'm no car reviewer, but will try and give you an idea what the car is like.
I test drove the car on a bit of motorway and through some long and twisty country B roads. On the Motorway (M23) , the car felt composed and stable at "high" speed like the Mk6, but when overtaking, the revs seem to spin up a little quicker making the overall manoeuvre quicker. I suppose with the extra 30 horses and 100 kg lighter, the car feels lighter. I would have like to push the car a little more harder but it was bucketing down and with crosswinds,it would be a little tricky. Plus, not my car.Overall stability is as good as the Mk6.
The exciting bit is really the country roads. Handling was superb, especially with all the winding, twisty and slippery roads. Steering is slightly better weighted, felt more direct and the whole car felt more nimble and composed. Improved Haldex unit, maybe.
The main noticeable change over the Mk6R is the engine note. Had "Race Mode" on throughout the whole drive and the engine note was superb, louder than MK6, like R32. Although it's "loud", it's not excessive or intrusive. There's this "throaty" roar from the exhaust which sounds like a V6/V8 at times. It makes the MK6 exhaust note sound tame and sudued. I have a manual box, but with this DSG box, everytime you change up/down gear there's this "booom" noise from the exhaust. To describe it best I can, it's like there's a "Dump valve" when changing gears except the noise it makes is muffled.Superb noise. Again, would have like to push it harder but with the rain etc, and didn't want the sales guy think I'm a right hooligan cos I'm going to part/ex my 6 for the 7.
Overall, an exciting car. Don't get me wrong, I love my MK6 and it's an excellent car.The Mk7 has taken a lot of the Mk6 DNA and evolved it to what it is now.
I will be signing up for one soon.
    Hope this helps

Whenever I read "engine note roar" all I can think is that they have been successfully fooled by the Soundaktor...

This article suggests that - "we'll find out later this week when we see our print colleague Denis Droppa's driving impressions". Would this review be a first?

Edit: just found all those reviews on snow/ice over in Europe. Still, have we seen a proper review on dry roads yet?
