Hi Guys,
Just wanted to check with some owners see if they have experienced these things before or not, and clarify some things VW say are normal which I find really hard to believe.
I've got a 2014 Golf R in manual and below are the issues I'm experiencing with it.
1: Intermittently the auto raise/lower function on either the front driver or front passenger window stops working. When I let go of the button the window stops moving. Yes I'm pushing/pulling the button all the way and feeling the click but sometimes when I let go it stops instead of continuing. It's always the front 2, never happened with the rear 2 windows. I've also noticed if I get out of the car and hold the lock button whichever window wasn't auto closing again wont close holding the lock button on the key. I've taken the car to service at least 20 times complaining about this and they consistently say sorry we couldn't find anything. Even though I have multiple video recordings of this they say if we cant replicate it we cant do anything.
2: Whenever I'm driving I can always feel cold air blowing through the drivers 2 vents, passengers side are not doing it only drivers side. The right drivers side on the door the air flow is quite strong really easy to feel, the drivers on the center console is much fainter really hard to feel. Once I stop the car it goes away. If I turn on recirculate air it still happens. I have to either completely shut the vents or obviously turn the air con onto heating to get rid of it. I've rang VW and they had no clue referred me to the dealer, spoke to the service manager and he reckons this is normal, its apparently to stop a high pitched whistle developing at speed. He couldn't answer then why the passenger two do not do this. I went down to a different VW dealership on the weekend and they reckon that's not normal, and I even went to my dealership and tested the new golf R which they insist doesn't do it.
3: Whenever I start the car I always have to put the clutch in twice to start it. I jump in, depress the clutch as far as it will go, hit the start button and it comes up saying press clutch. I release the clutch then depress again and it starts. I've taken the car into service for this and again they cant find anything wrong with it.
4: Infotainment system is really possessed. Sometimes I get into the car and hitting media to play music over BT from my phone brings a blank screen, the transport controls are there but nothing else no metadata from my phone. I have to go back to my phone, open the music app I use which is spotify, and I notice the musics playing and the cars selected as the output. I have to pause the music than re play for the metadata to come up and the music plays. Sometimes its similar, the metadata is there and it says its playing but there's no sound. I raise the volume to max still no sound. I go to spotify on my phone and again the music is playing and I have to pause and re play for the music to come out of the car. Another thing that's just started recently it seems to play a few songs then decides to lower the volume to 0 and that seems to pause spotify, if I raise the volume on the car steering wheel the next track plays.
5: Parking sensors are really screwy. Today I was stopped at a set of lights and a ute with a toe bar was in front of me. I did stop a little too close so the sensors were beeping at me first yellow lines. I was stuck at the lights for like 4 minutes and twice suddenly they started screaming at me with the red lines closest to me like he was about to hit me. Neither of us had budged a cm. I've had that happen a few times even when no ones next to me, I'm stopped at a set of lights on a single lane road and all of a sudden the sensors on the curb side start screaming at me. Unless the cars detecting poltergeists or something........
6: Sunroof visor has come off its track. Dealership wanted to charge me $800 bucks to fix it! After much deliberation they agreed to cover it under warranty for me and we booked a date to get it fixed. I took the car in on the day and they said sorry we cant do it we need the car for at least 2 days and we also need a week to get the part in. Why I wasn't told this when booking the service god knows. They were fully aware what it was booked in for. So we rescheduled for 2 days ago, I drop the car in oh you don't have a appointment. WTF?! No your not in the system............ So I went home and rang VW customer support again and explained to them how the dealerships giving me the run around. They said they would call them and ring me back but of course I haven't heard back from them yet.
So long story short has anyone experienced any of these issues? And if so how did you get them resolved? What was the culprit?
Last thing I'll ask has anyone else noticed you cant have the doors open and shut the windows? A friend of mine has a polo GTI you would think there built on the same platform, but if he closes his windows then opens the door they continue on there merry way. If I do that they stop and I have to hold the key to shut them.
Thank you for your advice!
I've not had the breadth of issues that you seem to have. However, I can add in my experiences on a couple of items:
1. I have found on 2 occasions my drivers' window refuses to auto-open/close (once after disconnecting the battery and once at random), I just reset it. This works for all the windows. You wind the window all the way down and then all the way back up. Don't let go of the button for a few seconds after the window is fully closed and that should reset it to one-touch open/close.
2. My parking sensors also randomly scream at me from time to time in traffic (when stationary). They've only started doing that in the last few months for no apparent reason. They've only done it a few times but I will be mentioning it at the service in December.
Other than that, I've not had any of the other items you've experienced (my MY16R doesn't have a sunroof).
MY08 Mk5 GT Sport - sold
MY14 Tiguan 118TSI - sold (Mazda3 SP25GT in its place)
MY16 Golf 7R: sold (Caterham Super 7 and Hyundai i30N in its place)
Thanks. I've tried the reset but unfortunately it comes back. It seems to go away for a few weeks then come back. Looks like this is quite a widespread issue I've had quite a few owners now tell me they have experienced this.
If you can next time your going for a drive try toggle recirculating air on and off and pop your hand over the drivers door air vent and see if you can feel any air blowing through it. I find mine does it really strongly on the drivers door side, drivers center console vent does it as well but only slightly. The passenger two don't do it at all. Service reckons this is normal but everyone I speak to says their car does not do it, I've even gone down to two other VW dealerships who say its not normal, and a guy at work has the same car as me and he swears his doesn't do it either.
1. I had the same problem with the windows. There was apparently a common fault with the driver's door window motor and this was replaced as recommended by a service bulletin. The problem was still present. Like you I had to take the car back multiple times and show them videos. Eventually convinced them to replace the control module (ie the buttons) on the driver's door and it's now fixed.
2. I also have air flowing/blowing in through the air vent near the driver's side. I notice it more with warm air coming in even in summer. Like you turning recirculation on doesn't change this. The only way is to close off the vent. I have not taken this into the dealer but would like to see a solution too.
Thanks, your the first guy I've heard of saying he has it as well. Next time your in for service if you can bring it up with them it would be greatly appreciated I'm curious to see what they say. My dealership where I bought the car insists its normal, but I've spoken to 2 others who say it's not. I've got the car booked in at the end of next month at a new dealership to fix the sunroof visor so I thought I might as well take it down to them and get them to check out the vents as well since they say it's not normal. Not to mention the windows. Really not happy with my dealership they have done absolute jack and done nothing but make up BS excuses.
Yeah that's what I'm doing but I'm a bit worried there going to come back and say it's normal too.
Does anyone know how to activate the climate tests for the mk7? I've found a few YouTube videos showing how to do it on the 5 but it's not working on mine so I'm assuming they've changed the procedure for the 7?
Thanks
