No way will they end up doing that.
1) it will canibalise sales from the upper end audi's and lower end porsches (i.e. TTRS has the 2.5L 5cyl turbo and doesn't make that much power)
2) the Golf R is already pretty pricey, add in a super engine and you are looking in the 80-90k price range and people will be hesitant to buy it.
3) they talk about low 4 second 0-100 runs but then say they need a big turbo to get the power = big lag.
I would've thought a Golf R+ was the estate/station wagon version
(For when you need a little more Golf R)
^Normal Golf Plus/Variant/Wagon
So to be so disagreeable on all points...
1. You'll find that people with money for a Porsche or TTRS will pay the money to have the "superior" badge on their car.
2. 30-40k extra for similar power to APR stage 3? I doubt it.
3. Minimal lag in the AMG A45, nothing stopping VW from also utilising a variable vane turbo and fitting a larger intercooler. So long as they make it handle properly and get rid of the understeer.
1) the A45 is $75k, if VW are going to go above and beyond the spec of the A45 it is going to cost around 80-90k which is serious money for a VW so potential buyers will look elsewhere.
2) 30-40k extra for a factory warranted equivalent APR Stage 3 (if it ever gets built/released in australia which is wont)
3) The A45 does it's 0-100 in 4.7 seconds so i doubt we can see a 4 second 0-100 in vw factory trim.
