Bit of extra grip was a goal. Mostly to reduce understeer. I expect my speedo to read true now, was 2Km/h over before. But the biggest deciding factor was stock - Bob Jane have been running a promotion and Continental were quoting 6 weeks delivery times. But one store had the 245/35/R19 in stock, and my local guy went and got them. Kudos to Chirnside Park Bob Jane.

I like your thinking regarding reducing understeer. The new Audi RS3 will have an option to up-spec the front wheels/tyres to 255/30R19 for exactly the same reason.

Regarding speedo error, I have done some research from TireRack.com and it would seem you are spot on. The standard Bridgestone RE050A tyres have a rotation spec of around 817/mile and the Conti's around 805/mile. This would translate an indicated 100 km/h to a true 98 x 817/805 = 99.5 km/h. Close enough to round up to 100 km/h. It will be good to hear about your forthcoming track day experience.

Confirmed yesterday with GPS. Speedo reads 1Kmh over true now. I saw that there is a weekend event at the Island today and a Golf R wagon was running around making 2.06 comfortably. I aim to get under 2mins tomorrow and the tyres and tune should make that possible, so just up to the driver's ability...

Has anyone on here used a piggyback tuning box on their R?

I've previously used DTUK with good results and was wondering if anyone has done it to their R yet? Or similar?

I use a RDTechnik tuning box on for 30000km and love it, get 3.6/3.7 area for 0-100 and ran 12.4 1/4mile in 34degree heat in Darwins humidity. Although i am upgrading as they will have their live tuning available soon.
As for DTUK on the R, i have not seen a negative review on them and is the most common used especially in england/europe. Go on to vwroc forum tuning section for a good read.

I'll be fitting a JB1 in a week or so. Excellent results from these so far in the US. The support from George Smooth (the developer) is second to none as well - hes very active on the forums. JB1 handles upgrades well too, you can use "Map 6" to customise your boost curve and aggressiveness according to your supporting mods.

    JB1 is pretty damn good.
For anyone wanting to tune but has a locked out ecu, this is the next best thing.

What mod gave you the biggest pick up in acceleration? Is the tuning box that can be used without other mods or is it a package deal to get the results?

Tuning box for sure. Quoted figures of +55HP 90nm so definitely notice the difference. Has a 0-9 dial on it and comes set to 6 with every increase a 4% gain on the base map. So similar to those other brands out there.
If you have the option i would get a proper tune, the only reason i went down the tuning box route was because of where i live.
Intake is more for noise and may help add say 5-10hp.
