Not sure but the article says that it will have a 2.2 engine and 7 speed dsg with the exact same HP as the current engine and it will be 3.9 sec, Something is not right in there...

That article is pooh! 2.2 litre engine? Where did that come from? Is the current R lacking a bottom end or something?
Virtually same hp is fair enough but how does that equate to a 3.9 time?
7 speed box I assume is the big one from the Audi S cars. If they are talking about the smaller one they are pissed.

    Well let's wait and see...

I had 7 gears on my 6R Polo Gti. I hated it. Changed gears way to often, was amazing to go back to a 6 speed. 7th gear at 70km/hr and a first gear that maxed out at 30km/hr was annoying when taking off from a corner..
Also agree that those performance figures are a load of ....

The 7 speed DSG in the polo/golf's that run a dry clutch is completely different to the 7 speed that is offered in the new RS3. The 7 speed dry clutch is rated to only 250nm where the 7 speed dsg that is a wet clutch is rated to 500nm. Both are east west mounting transmissions

The new RS3 & the current TTRS runs the DQ500 wet clutch, 7 speed DSG (same as in the Tiguan & transporter of course as well!)

That would be the same DQ500 that you mentioned pulled a bit more power out of the system than the DQ250 that is in the R/GTI according to comments in the motor mag hot tuner challenge?

I guess it's better to lose a tad of power for the benefit of a much stronger gearbox.
