Ask them for the part number and then ring around the usual places for a price. With a bit of luck it'll be Bosch or some other mass produced item.

Well ECSTuning want $80 for shipping, how are they for shipping times considering that astronomical price...

This is my first VW coming from non-euro cars so no idea where to source these parts if anyone know anywhere else legitimate. Heaps of sites seem to have it but half of them I don't think I would trust.

I can confirm this. On the Mk5 I had one fail after I went Stage 3 (within a few kms!), and the genuine part was crazy money (well more than $400). My mechanic got a 'generic" bosch part (which was actually identical!) for something like $150. Wired it in, all good to go.

Mate that is good to hear, honestly it really puts my mind at ease rather than thinking about if something wasn't done properly (which I was honestly thinking but the blame game really doesnt have any winners).

The part is $200 + $80 shipping from ECSTuning but for $80 shipping interested to see what kind of timeframe it will take to get to AUS. Maybe I can have a look at what else I might want to get from there too

Nah don't stress, it happens. It could have been dropped, fouled with fuel, left in a pile of dirt - who knows...

What error are you getting exactly? (Have you scanned it?)

Don't start browsing the ECS website man, you'll come out with a whole lot of butthurt if you do.

Yep exactly, it dosent help having a little women in my ear going on about warranty and buying a brand new car etc etc.

The error is P0036, P0036 HO2S Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1 Sensor 2).

I had a browse and most of the stuff I want has late shipping dates, so I am assuming it is probably best to just order the sensor on its own and get it shipped ASAP to be honest.

$80 from the states using Fedex or whoever ECS use seems pretty damn reasonable to me compared to what Aus post would charge you to post it from Brisbane to Melb say!!!

Pardon my ignorance in this but is an O2 sensor considered as a consumable and not covered under warranty?

This is precisely the error I got. Theoretically it shouldn't affect anything after the car has warmed up (The circuit heats up the sensor to a temperature it can operate affectively on), as from memory it doesn't work properly until it's hot.

You might be able to claim it under warranty, but it is literally a 5 min job to replace.

Don't listen to that little woman. Today it's a Lambda sensor, tomorrow it's your very soul on the line!
