Some guys on the UK forums are complaining about the 'drone' their R makes on a trailing throttle. Some are getting extra resonators fitted to try to tame it. None of the complainers seem to have owned a Mk 6 prior to getting the Mk 7.

Anyone here had a Mk 6 R and find their Mk 7 droney?

I strongly suspect it's a design feature but they won't listen lol.
    Looking for:- RS4 B7 Avant.
Current:- Amarok V6 Sportline; Mazda CX-9 Azami AWD

Should be interesting to see how a non-resonated exhaust goes then!

Can anyone give me an idiot's guide to the automatic dipping of the side mirrors when reversing? Not sure what I am missing or if it is even supposed to work in the R, I mean it is enabled in the menu but no dice.

Edit: So the manual is written for LHD and states to set the knob to R whereas for RHD you need to set it to L from my quick search! Oh if only the car wasn't so far away in the garage.

Leave the mirror adjust knob to the left as if you were about to adjust the left mirror. To adjust it put car in reverse, wait for it to drop and then adjust as necessary. Should fold back to normal once your above 5/10km/h

These UK guys are driving me nuts. After complaining about the exhaust noise, now they're saying you can't heel and toe in the manual Mk 7 R! I'm not sure if anyone out here has a manual yet but please check on this if you do.

I suspect none of them know what they are on about because the same naysayers also state you can't do heel toe in a Mk 6 which is absolute bull****. I do it multiple times every day.

Edit: I've looked elsewhere and found some Mk 7 owners who can actually drive confirm heel toe is still possible. Panic averted. Clearly some people just can't drive and should stick to DSG. Not that there's anything wrong with DSG before I get flamed or accused of starting another forum war.

Unlike the Mk5 and Mk6, which have floor hinged accelerator pedals, the Mk7 is top hinged and sits about 12cm above the floor. Heel and toe operation is therefore more difficult, but not impossible.

    I had a MK6 and now have a MK7 R.

The MK6 did not drone (if it did I never noticed it). The MK7 does drone - especially under load at low revs. Leave it in sixth at 50-55kph going up a hill you'll see what I mean.

Doesn't matter what driving mode your in, so I don't think it has anything to do with exhaust flaps. I have "soundaktor" volume on 30%, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. Just sounds like good old fashioned exhaust drone.

Don't think it's a design feature, but the car wasn't designed for driving "Miss Daisy" so I don't think a "quiet and refined" ride was a key design concept.

    Is it bad - No.

It is very easily corrected by selecting a more appropriate gear and then it just sounds good

Firstly, are you aware that drone and exhaust noise are different? Drone is actually a resonance or in this case to be more specific a cabin vibration which assuming your hearing is OK can be fairly distressing to some listeners. A good tuned exhaust note is inspiring, a drone is just plain annoying and for certain is NOT designed into a cars DNA. In fact the main reason IMO that the 7R has the exhaust valves installed is to alleviate this drone whilst allowing the exhaust note to be louder and nicer at other speeds.

The drone we talk about by its nature is a low frequency 40 - 50 Hz (1200 -1600rpm) trailing throttle or under load up a hill and is caused by low gas flow through the exhaust - so the idea of the valves is that under those situations, where gas flow is low you reduce the exhaust volume i.e. close the 2 outer pipes, gas flow increases and the drone goes away.

This problem seems to be specific to the detuned cars in Australia, Japan and S Africa as far as I can tell. The valve control is done from the ECU, so have the valve position parameters been altered inadvertently during the detune? If so it may well be that a small adjustment to the engine control program would fix it.

To my knowledge there is only one guy on the UK forums (and he is from Melbourne) who has added a hotdog glass filled resonator with some success as he claims the drone is reduced by about 15 - 20% and interestingly the exhaust volume has increased in the cab.

Back onto the automatic dipping when reversing, I am assuming that you only flick the adjustment knob to "L" and have the car in Reverse with the park brake on to adjust the reversing position.

Beyond that, if you have the mirrors setting enabled to automatic dipping when reversing the adjust knob can be left on the dot setting?

Ok reading the other thread looks like it needs to goto "L".

    Found this also;
