Mikey1, yes I've seen that video. We don't race cars or do hill climbs, just daily drivers. She won't ever be anywhere near limit. In supra barely ever saw over 4k rpm and that's what she wants again! Huge low end power/torque in turbo car that's classy!

Was filling up at BP Wheelers hill/Mulgrave this evening after work and a MK 7 Blue R rocked up behind me and the guy was filling up as well.

So far I've passed a few slow ones on the freeway and walked passed one that somehow confused a normal parking space at a railway station for a 45 degree angled space ||/|||| (pretend those lines are parked cars) - not a good rep for Mk7 owners so far.

    Shoulda bought a GTI!

Seriously though, a tuned K03 GTI is all about strong and immediate torque delivery at very low revs - response is everything. Compared to an R with a larger K04 - especially an unmodified one - a tuned GTI will feel much faster every time (even if it isn't, above legal speeds). The lack of traction emphasises the GTI's feeling of power too.

There's not been much in the way of modding happening in the Mk7 R community yet - both tunes and hardware are scarce. However once the kit starts appearing, you'll be in a better position. But if the Mk7 R is anything like the Mk6 in terms of how to achieve gains, you'll be better off changing the downpipe and going straight to stage 2 if you want low-rpm response. Stage 1 will boost the midrange and to a lesser extent the top end, but unless you reduce back pressure that larger turbo is always going to result in some lag.

I suspect it's the 4Motion causing the lethargy at low speeds. The Scirocco with the same engine feels incredibly responsive.

The Tiguan with the GTI engine is also a fair bit less responsive with the 4Motion.

    Guys, thanks for responses. Will
Get vwr intake installed once available and stage 1 apr tune when they're released. Will see how that goes.

Extra traction, and in particular the extra weight of the system both contribute to that feeling, absolutely. But there is still inherently more lag in the K04 than the tiny K03.

Yep, saw the results on sat night, a dsg stage 2 mk6 R ran a 13.2 and a stock dsg mk7 R ran a 13.1. Very potent car with huge potential to build into a little monster!
