Took the DSG GTI for a spin today... Daaaaammmmnnn
    I want one.

Just Have to wait so I can take the manual for a spin to compare, but it hauls arse and it's damn nice on the interior. The little things like the MFD being a higher res and animated just make it feel more modern.

    Awesomeness!

VGA also know this - and have specified the car accordingly - and I expect it will sell quite well.

A manual, 3-door Golf GTI very much remains a niche in this country, given that our market has a DSG uptake rate of around 75%-80% and the 3-door variant comprised of less than 5% of all GTI sales.

Perhaps when all has settled down, maybe they'll consider bringing them in a few years down the track?
I agree... to a point. I figure if you are having the car built to order why cant you have whatever option you like? I don't see the logic behind VWA not letting you have one with the lot I mean who really cares?

I wanted to buy a Mk7 GTI with Performance Pack for my wife, but it seems I cannot get the combination I want in manual (yes, the wife only drives manual, hates DSG) which is somewhat annoying. When we purchased my wife's Mk6 118 the dealer let us order all sorts of crap... Leather sports seats (like the R), self park, manual, sports suspension, 17 inch rims, etc. Wife's car was built in Wolfsburg and is awesome...

So what happened with the Mk7... anyone?

    +1 on the first point,
and I am glad to see someone shares my preference for a manual in a GTI PP.

Save costs by simplifying logistics, perhaps? Maybe it's easier and cheaper to order a bunch of cars with a set combination of options and allows the importer or distributor to 'buy in bulk and save'.

As long as that combination is what you want (and for 90% of buyers, it will be) the consumer will be happy.

To make decent profits out of the remaining 10% of consumers who won't be happy with the current set of options, VGA could allow niche variants to be built as a 'special order'.

Predicting that 90% of GTI sales will be locked in (I assume the GTI will sell well and meet sales targets), VGA could then afford to gamble that last 10% would be more likely to pay a higher price for their special order, because even if they lose that sale, it won't be a big loss to them.

Limiting options is for 2 purposes.

    a. keeping a good cross section of stock on hand for immediate deliveries. My Mk7 is the first new car i've ever waited on in my life, the rest i've just taken what was available
    b. deleting options that people just dont bother picking.

I would have paid through the ass for a factory sound system that performs well. Sadly, because about 1 in 200 Mk6 GTI's ever had it fitted (search for GTI's currently for sale on carpoint, then search for Dynaudio, then remove all the cars that say they have Dynaudio but dont...), they realised that most people just wont pay 1500 bucks for a better sound system and thus have deleted it for Australia.

I guess that if you want 18s then there may be someone who has them but wants 19s. Straight swap, everyone wins.
