Just like how I can choose in my Mk6 Golf whether the voice control button is enabled or if it works as a Mute button.

The marketing stuff is just a copy from overseas and something they've forgotten to alter.
Probably similar to the folding mirrors that aren't active, the Traffic Management add on to the RNS510 that isn't active and the speed zones that are not accurate.

Team_v: yes, the functions that you have identified are similar in that they are not supported in the Australian version of the Golf. But, the difference with voice command is that VW Australia have indicated that it is included in their models (as is evidenced in the published literature).
I don't doubt Ryan_R 's obvious expertise in the technical aspects of this problem, but from my perspective, the matter goes to the heart of the commercial relationship between a buyer and a seller. By this I mean that (I think that ) it is reasonable for the purchaser of a product to understand what it is that he is buying by reference to how the seller describes the item for sale.
Key to this understanding is the published material that the seller uses in his sale campaign. Without wishing to antagonise Ryan_R any further, I don't dismiss the importance of VW's advertising material so lightly. I'm not a lawyer, but I believe that the contract that I entered into for the purchase of my car is defined by the words on the actual piece of paper that I signed and the advertising material that VW published to describe the car. If VW said that I purchased a car with voice command, then I contend that it is reasonable for me to expect that I would get a car with voice command. Perhaps I'm being naive, in my position.

Don't worry, I completely understand and agree with you, I was just pointing out your best bet at solving the *technical* problem (not so much the behavioural one). Still, your dealer should send you a feedback/survey form at some point within a few months after purchase where you can vent your displeasure. I'd give the dealer principle the benefit of advising him your plans to do this (AFTER you have received the survey) in case he suddenly comes up with a way to enable the feature.

In my experience the voice control works best if you speak in a 'robotic' way similar to how you'd expect it to speak to you. It's also pointless trying to use it if you have passengers who are talking.

How's the rest of the car going?

Ryan_R: Thanks for your patient understanding of my frustration with VW Australia.
As to your question about the car generally and notwithstading the problems that I'm having with the infotainment system, I think that the Golf is a magnificant car! It some some quirky features that I'm still not used-to ( like the fact that I have to turn-off the bluemotion function every time that I restart the car, and the fact that I can't turn off the day time driving lights), but it's a real delight to drive. I just wish that the after sales customer service from VW Australia was better.

From memory both of those functions can be altered with the VCDS tool.
I know a lot of people have an issue with the start stop tech and deactivated it via VCDS in the MK6/Tiguan.

    Team_v:
i'm not familiar with VDCS system but I will do some research online.

    pologti18t:
thanks for the info. At this stage I don' t think that VW Australia is using this facility (get out of jail free card) to avoid fixing my problem. I hope that it doesn't try this approach as it will ultimately affect their Brand value

So my in-laws are having their Tiguan serviced this very moment. I asked them to ask VW dealer about the new GTI, and all they got was it's coming next week, no price or anything else. VW is really keeping details under-wraps, much more than the new iphone5s/5c
