I'm having a look at an A250 tomorrow. Will see if the suspension is as harsh as I've been reading. Looks amazing and particularly the interior but its going to have to be pretty good to stop me getting a new GTI. Whenever the bloody thing gets released! Let alone the Performance Pack that I want.

Having a Gap Year!!!!
what next?... what next?
I'm getting calls from the Merc dealer now about doing a deal. A fully optioned A250 will be 60-62, they started at 62 initially and will do a deal. I'm figuring a fully optioned GTI would be 55+. Merc are happy to give me a corporate discount on that price if I'm serious and includes free servicing for 3 years. I'm just not over the moon about the too hard suspension. Any thoughts? I want a performance pack!

I think you just answered your own question.
Seriously, if you can, hold out for the PP - they'll bring it in within the next few months, or you will be able to get a conclusive date in the next month or two anyway, I suspect. In the long term, a few months of delay will be forgotten if you're driving the car you actually want.

Yep, Merc drive away price and is pretty good. That includes all 3 option packs like heated leather seats (much better looking than VW boring Vienna), sat nav, cruise with distronic thingy, amazing stereo upgrade, brilliant iphone connectivity/Bluetooth (FAR FAR better than VW), park assist and can get out of the park as well, blind spot warning, sunroof (bigger than VW), DUal clutch transmission (inferior to VW), bixenons, 18 inch wheels (Merc Aust removed the ****ty run flat tyres thank God). A250 has 155kW, same as Mk 6 GTI but 350nm torque same as Mk 7 GTI. ALso includes free servicing for 3 years. I'd imagine a GTI with PP and these options would be close to 60 or over.
I'm getting very tired of VW being so painful about releasing details, let alone the actual car. I think VW Aust are getting to greedy and they might lose sales from people like myself who has NEVER considered any other car after having a Mk 5 and Mk 6 GTI.

having seen an a250 for the first time on the road the other day i have to say it looks pretty damn good on the move with its DRLs especially in black
Yeah they look very nice. When I first had a look at the A250 they said looking at March. Now they are saying July. I've read about some issues with rattles possibly sunroof problems. Very unBenz like. I'm not waiting til then as my car's resale is going to start plummeting. Maybe I could just drive my 67 Cooper S until then and sell the GTI early.

The A Class Merc is one size smaller than the Golf, I believe, closer in size to the BMW 1-series hatch. The difference is most notable in the boot space I believe. So if space is important, eg for carting children and luggage, the Golf has it over the Bimmer and the Merc.
