The Rocco only has XDS, which is lesser than the Mk7's XDS+ let alone Performance Pack.
Then you buy a Golf R.
There are products available for what people want.

The problem arises when the consumer doesn't want to pay more for a product that is not seen as essential.
I can tell you know that XDS is more than capable for on road use and most track sessions.

Don't see much point in getting a 5 Door GTI over a Octavia RS tbh.
    Where does it say there is no 3 door? The RVCS data shows both 3 and 5 door models;

That's compliance... doesn't mean they will import a 3 door model.
There is a similar doc there for an automatic Up! They don't import an auto Up! as far as I know.

The Golf R isn't available in 3 Door because of the Scirocco.
I know what XDS does because its in the Polo, exact same system as the Mk6 GTI and Scirocco so there isn't any need for sass.

All I'm saying is VW attracted me as a customer thanks to the 3 Door Polo GTI and now they've potentially taken away a chance to retain me. I'm not demanding they ship over 100 3 Doors, I merely want the option to do a factory order.

    idaho,
Reports from the media and Golf7 indicate it won't be coming, but thanks for reminding me about the RVCS data. We shall see in a few months.

Team_v, the issue is that we are unlikely to be able to choose options that are available elsewhere. We are happy to pay for them. 'Just buy an R' is a bit of a cop out when all people might want is a diff that's available on the GTI in other markets

I'd be surprised if xenons were not standard on the GTI in Australia. I think you'd have to compare the NZ market (versus Oz) to the Irish market (vs UK) where xenons are also not standard- they get the "poverty" GTI, unlike the UK where Xenons are standard. Also, my understanding is that the PP will be coming next year.

In any event I'll be looking at the R/S3 for AWD and increased KW.

    It's not a cop out.
The GTI has been suitable for road going and fairly heavy track use for some time without a trick e-diff so it's just a marketing ploy that it is essential for the mk7.

In reality there is only so much you can get away with using XDS etc so if you really want more you look at AWD or outside of the VAG fold.

You're missing my point. Necessary or not, the diff option exists in other markets. People pay for it there and I don't think anyone expects it to be standard here. But if having the option is good enough for them then why can't it be good enough for us? $1500 for the PP is a fraction of the extra $10k step up from GTI to R

What reality do you live in? That's the way of the world. Somethings that are standard here are option in the UK and vice versa. Some options in the UK aren't available here. Some options in Germany aren't available in the UK.

We have a small market and can't expect to have the plethora of models and options that are available in the EU.
Even Ford only provides one model Focus ST here with no options... whereas in the UK you get the choice of three ST models.

One thing that may influence the model spread for Australia is the change to the FBT/Leasing legislation.
I think we can expect a significant downturn in the sales of high end Golf GTIs, Focus STs etc.

Well there you go, personal preference and all that.
