Hi all, new to the forum. I ordered a GTi MY16 on the weekend, delivery scheduled for next month. Nervous and excited at the same time
There will be a fair bit on this either back in this thread or the fuel economy thread, but on general commuting I was getting anywhere from 7-10* depending on the level of traffic and how much stop/start was involved which is the killer.
Given the performance an offer the GTI returns sweet economy numbers, even when given a bit of a hurry over the twisties - I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Ordered my GTI-P DSG in the same colour, with leather, DAP and sunroof about a month ago - apparently it's waiting on the dock in Zeebrugge as we speak - should be here late April.

Could someone tell me the ideal hose clamp ploer to remove airbox hose clamp? My pliers don't go far enough and it seems pretty awkward for a multi grip? There are pics of it in the link in case you're wondering..

**Worlds dumbest question alert**
Do the GTI and R share the same under carriage and consequently, is there space at the rear of a GTI for a differential, axle shafts, and any associated suspension changes required to introduce rear driven wheels on a GTI?
This is a curiosity based question. Just wondering how similar the two vehicles actually are.

I have heard a whisper in the wind that someone in the US is doing a conversion of the GTI to have a haldex. Im guessing you'll have to modify the rear to accomodate the diff. The suspension change matter, I have confirmed that they air suspension for our platform is the same. But I need to read more on it.

I can back that up. I have a manual which lives most of it's life within the confines of a 60 zone. I use an app to log fuel usage and at the fill yesterday it is at an average of 9.99L/100km over the 3,273km since new. Pretty good really considering I'm still addicted to the sweet surge of power up through the revs in second gear, it stays in "Sport" mode, and a i regularly switch off the stop/start feature.
Normal driving I reckon 7's would be easily achieved even in traffic. I'd love to test it for you, but as far as I'm concerned, anything below 4000 rpm on the tach is just to remind you what the non-GTI crowd live with
