AHhh ok! That makes perfect sense! Thanks

I come from driving a Civic Type R which only had 200Nm of NA torque so I probably got really use to rev'ing the hell out of that to get power and needing to down shift a bit!

But I guess now I've got an auto box with 350Nm of turbo power!!! Almost double the torque i use to have hahaha.

the rumble is the engine labouring, because the gearbox is staying in 6 gear rather than changing down, that's really annoying, so now I run 95 octane, which the GTI will run on safely, because the engine knows that this fuel is a lower octane, the gear box changes down, eliminating the engine labouring. I haven't noticed any noticeable loss of performance , give it a go see what you think

I never had any labouring of the engine, D is just a tad lazy on the DSG the same way that S is to aggressive but for a hills squirt.

I'd say most here buy a GTI and come on to the forum because they're enthusiasts so I'd be surprised if many would be sticking 95 in the tank except in an emergency. Seems a very odd solution to a non-existent problem.

The laboring of the engine is just the cars way of trying to be more efficient. When I fist got my DSG GTI I was surprised at how early it shifts gears and how long it'll try hold onto a gear going up hill, but I quickly got used to it. If it is in 6th going up a hill and its laboring, a tad more throttle will made it drop back, or you can just shift it yourself.

Also I believe the car has some sort of level sensor ie. the car knows weather its on a downhill/uphill slope. I believe this also plays a part in the DSG programming.

And I agree with Dutch, for the extra few cents, put 98 in it

Hi All, my Golf GTI is due for a service end of next month (1 year ownership)... however the car is telling me that the Oil Change is due tomorrow (I believe this might be the 1 year anniversary of when it arrived in the car yard)...

Is it ok to wait another month, or should I schedule a service sooner?

    Hi All,
Thinking of getting a GTI to use as our main vehicle.. Wife has a Golf 7 110 TDI Highline and loves it. I really like that too but just want a bit of top end power as well. My commute to work is 45 km each way so economy is important. The drive is half highway and half city but I try to avoid peak times. What sort of economy do you guys get when driving sedately?
    Thanks,
    Karl
