You are indeed quite perceptive.. it is for a friend I am bringing to the dark side.. he would love an R but his kids are on P plates and the GTI just got approved.
I still love my R, can't quite come at the new one yet.. I am hoping it grows on me but I am really struggling

If it's in the dealership's stock there is always a good bargain to be had. But if it's being ordered and you care about wait times, a lot of the power is lost. Then you have to play off dealers who care about customer service.
I lucked out and got one which had been registered as a demo the week before, but not actually used yet for 41 on the road.
Assumed as much. I struggled a bit with the Mk7 initially, if I read back in this thread to the release of the GTI pics I was fairly critical of a few aspects, but given time it has grown on me and now I love the Mk7 GTI.
However as for the R, a couple of the styling cues still leave me a bit cold. The front bar is a non-event, while I still think they should have left the centred exhaust as a signature - there's quite a few Mk7s running this mod in the wheel thread, and I believe VW even sell a rear valance that supports this.
Thing is, if the Mk6 is doing the job for you, no need to rush and change now. If I hadn't sold my Mk6 last year I'd still be working on it now, rather than in a Mk7 (that's a whole other story though).

Yes the MK7 external styling is just too edgy for me.. and where did the LED running lights go?
Anyway if I still have the R when the MK8 comes out maybe they will do something interesting.. as you say if the MK6 floats your boat and it is trouble free don't sweat it

Good deal! I assume by quoting the RRP as $39,990 when it is actually $43,990 that is their way of giving you extra discount.
MY19 Tiguan Highline R-Line
I almost spat my coffee, $48,200 for a GTI with DA and Bi-xenons!!!
Over here (NZ) the base DSG GTI is $60,990
Bi-Xenons (when they were an option outside of PP) $3000
No DA package here so ACC additional $1000
Total $64,990 NZ which is $59,284 AUS!
An $11,000 fleecing.
