Assuming I find a dealer (reputable) interstate. Next question, how do I get the brand new vehicle over to my side? how about the turnover process normally done by the new vehicle salesperson onto myself, the customer?

Definitely look around and particularly interstate. Don't believe the dealer if they say they can't find a car. I found a GTI for my dad 30km away from our local dealer. Sometimes a dealer won't swap cars either because they know they have a car in demand. I think that's quite reasonable.

I forgot there was a plus discount, I haven't seen anyone get a higher corporate rate on the Mk7 but feel free to chip in if you have. As a comparison the standard (only?) rate on the Mk6 was almost $4k from memory.. I think it may have been a percentage then.

I'd never thought of my membership paying for itself that way - good point.

As for VW dealer swaps, good luck, I don't doubt they happen but they're pretty rare, particularly for anything in demand as suggested. My dealer certainly didn't even go looking despite my willingness to buy pretty much any color or certain options, my only stipulation was DSG. Then again given the deal was sweet in the end, I didn't mind.

Interstate dealers will be happy to do deals, I've almost ended up helping a couple of people myself, but you do need to factor in transport or a decent drive home.

So she qualifies. Thanks guys. Am I correct in that all she needs then is a letter from her employer? What does it need to state?

I found my dealer was OK to swap what they had in stock for the exact spec I wanted. They usually cannot just get one from another dealer unless they can give something back that the other dealer would be able to shift easily. Also if you are east coast and they find a car in Perth it is pretty much no way you will get that car. As transport is a killer and Perth doesn't get as many cars they don't like to give them up.

Most dealers are happy to organise the transport. Not sure how the handover is dealt with, you'd pretty much be on your own - I'm guessing most people who organise interstate purchases are 'advanced' buyers who don't need the handover, although I am unsure what happens if the car is delivered with a mark/scratch.

My dealer just rang the ICAA with my details for confirmation, again each dealer may have different procedures - although I'd suggest they'd want a letter/advice from the body, not employer.

True, if one dealer had a stock white car and another had a stock CSG then I'm sure a swap would be possible. However as you say, if it's harder to move (eg. a fully loaded black GTI) then I doubt anyone would take it on. Again I remember back to 2010 and the fact dealers wouldn't even swap a DSG for a manual as the DSGs were a lot harder to find in stock. Funnily enough that situation seems reversed where manuals are now harder to find.

Incidentally I'm not criticising a fully loaded black GTI, it's just a fact that shifting a basic white GTI will be a lot easier.

Hopefully her membership confirmation or something along those lines is all that's needed. I've found the sample letter in the corporate plus program doc and she doubts anyone in her firm would sign off on it.
    Fun times ahead...

Have done a search on this forum, but can't find what I am looking for, so - what's the general consensus for running-in a new Mk7 GTI (manual) ??

    Thx.

push the car but respect it at the same time (no red lining), don't let the piston get lazy. That's my philosophy.

I'm not sure there is a consensus, as it ranges from the bring it along slowly v the drive it like you stole it brigade.

Wherever you sit with your thoughts I'm sure the consensus is to definitely vary the revs on a regular basis (don't cruise on the highway for periods at one rev speed), and always ensure your oil is up to operating temp before driving it harder (around 90 degrees). I'd also suggest not to baby it either.

I've followed the above fairly well, I drove pretty hard on the VWW cruise but have not looked at any flat out acceleration runs until the oil is ready to play ball.

I hate choosing colours. Buying used generally negates a whole lot of consideration when it comes to colour.
Problem here is I love the white and black in the PP with the red highlights. The CS and NB are also very nice.
The look of a freshly detailed black car is a sight to behold but is it a level of commitment I want to enter into...
In the end my decision will ultimately be based on what's in stock and there seems to be a few black and white ones around. Trying to consider future wheels and thinking the black with bronze or gold wheels would like amazing. Almost a hot hatch version of KITT.
Or the storm trooper look with the white which I love but is it becoming a little dated?

I have looked at the wheel thread in depth and still not finding a lot that I love.
    What say you???
