Funnily enough I queried this point way back when.. Mk7 Golf GTI Discussion Thread

At the time of its information release VW were happy it could handle up to 187kW. I don't know if that has now changed, and I never really got an answer, but assume there must be ways to make it work. If not, the PP would not be an ideal base to work off for enhancements then.

Milltek have a 312hp GTI and they chose to work off the non-PP version

First drive: Milltek Golf GTI - BBC Top Gear

(I would have loved the PP as I don't have any intention to tune but the lack of a manual was the deal breaker)

The Seat Leon Cupra 280 has the diff. 280 is the power output in horsepower.

Good point, and VW wouldn't want to be pushing the limits with a stock car. So I'd say it's 210kw plus at least 20% (i.e. 250kw/330hp)

    Good point.

FWIW the special diff or VAQ in Volkswagen speak was originally tested at the 24 hour Nurburgring race over a few years in, I suspect, something carrying a fair bit of power. Fair to say that both versions of the GTI will be good to go for performance tuning.

If you're contemplating paying that kind of coin for a full exhaust I have to assume you want some noise - in which case I'd be inclined, particularly if you're thinking APR for the tune, to go for the Mk7 APR TBE when it is released. I'd assume it will come with the usual RSC stuff so while loud, it shouldn't drone, and probably would be back around the $3k mark per Mk6.
Not deciding on anything just yet. I'm weighing my options right now and waiting for reviews.

The APR tune and TBE is probably where I will end up in the future but for now, I'm just asking around.
And as for the why Milltek? well..... it's nice to be different than everyone else wouldn't it? :p Alot of people would just go for the APR (maybe just my illusion thinking).

Fair call, and agree it can be good to be different. The reviews will be interesting, great looking system but the Mk6 resonated had a few comments of too quiet, whereas non-resonated was quite loud and droney. But of course that's all subjective - ditto the noise level of the APR TBE.

Given time I'm sure there will be a lot of options per the Mk6 with the Euro systems more subdued and the US systems generally louder.

I'd probably be inclined to go dump only again myself.. except as I've made it clear, I'm not modding.

Well as long as we aren't counting wheels.. my 6 week Italian order turned into a less than 2 week wait and hit Sydney yesterday and will be with me next week. First set in the country..

We'll see where the tunes and exhaust systems go on the Mk7. I only twigged yesterday why it's been so slow on that front - the Yanks haven't got their GTIs yet, although their release is impending. I'd expect the market to be very interesting heading towards the end of the year on the mod front.

Can't wait to see your new shoes when you have em on later. Yeah, gotta see how well the tunes gonna hold up over time, it is a fairly new car. Do you think a DSG tune is necessary?
