Sadly most modern cars are far more secure than where you generally put your keys at night, and no car alarm or security feature will stop that (trust me :| )

Like most modern Euros, I imagine they are very difficult to steal - this should keep most amateur thieves at bay and move on to an easier target.

However, this has the unwanted effect of placing the owner in danger from professional thieves, who prefer to target the owner instead - usually at knife/gun-point (either on the road or at home), and force you to hand over the keys. Much easier this way.

Having said that, I think ram-raiders mostly prefer Euros that are at least mid-size (Golf is probably too small for the job - not enough mass), so I doubt you'd be the target of professional criminals.

    thanks guys

It does sound like most modern cars including the GTI would be extremely hard to steal apart from getting towed away or keys stolen.

I have a tsi which i park at the train station parking but no way would i park a GTI there.

And just gauging whether GTI's are a generally targeted vehicle

There's not really much of a difference, sure there might be some stations in particular where I'd think twice about parking but it's still just a Golf, not a Lamborghini.

Not sure if posted before... Wheels Nov has a road test of the GTI (DSG) = 9/10

    0-100km/h 6.4 sec
    0-400m 14.5sec @ 163 km/h

Just for comparison... they compared the Fiesta ST/208GTI/Fabia vRS/Swift

    208Gti is seriously fast - 0-100 6.6 sec, 0-400m 14.8sec@153km/h

Went to check the new GTI out this arvo. Is it just me, or is everyone else wondering where the extra nearly 15k over a 103TSI is going?

Allianz will not insure the GTI (or any high performance car) if you live in an inner city suburb from what I was told. That is what happened to me - despite a perfect record, lock up garage and the suburb I am in is quite trendy/affluent with heap of soccer mums with Range Rover Sports, Beema X5s, Porsche Cayennes etc as well as a guy with a Lexus LFA in the area.

I tried calling VW direct but got the same response (as they use Allianz as their underwriter)

+1. The 103TSI uses the dodgy 7 Spd box so that is enough of a turn off for me...... Don't even get me started on the twin motor

You just have to look under the Bonnet to see where some of the extra money has gone mate. No rubbish 7spd DSG.
