Yep, sat in one tonight at a dealer. Not convinced that the interior quality is any better than the mk6 gti. Noticed the illuminated door sills, and interior led light. Externally the standard headlights look pretty good. Kind of dissapointed to find so much plastic on the interior of the rear doors whereas in the mk6 you get soft leather like rubber. Steering wheel looks crap as expected. Centre console is slightly higher.
These observations occured at night so I guess I'll have to take a closer look during the day and request a test drive. Sales agent standing outside reckons that the life cycle of the golf gti mk7 is 7 years.....or he could mean Golf's in general??

Did the Mk6 leather seats come with electric motors on the 5 door? The Mk7 doesn't.

Oh, friend in Singapore said the next batch of GTIs they are getting will come with LED tail lights - the first batch that arrived didn't. Is this the case with Australia?

Electric seats were an option in addition to the leather.

Can anyone explain why this might be?

Based on past history, no Golf interation has gone 7 years..... As they are mass market, Golfs cannot expect the same life cycle as BMW/Mercedes etc who do 7 year model runs. I think Mk4-Mk6 were all 5 yrs in total?

The production life of the Mk 5 was cut short because it cost VW too much to build and make money on so the Mk 6 was brought in about 2 years early I think. We should be about 2 years into the Mk 6 now rather than Mk 7. The Mk 6 was a modified 5 to shorten the build and make it cheaper to produce but it also polished an already very good design. Shame it will also be remembered for poor after sales service.

I got quoted 52k for GTI with bi-xenons and further 500 for tinting.
Base price was close to 50k drive away.

Well I hope they do better than that price, because that's a lot!
