I loved my Mk 5 and Mk 6 but I always thought the engine in the Mk 5 had more character. I never noticed any turbo lag in the Mk 5 but definitely picked up a hint of it in the lower rev range in the Mk 6. You learn to drive around it though but I was definitely disappointed in the beginning as they had sacrificed the low down response for more top end. The power and torque figures did not suggest that but you could definitely notice it. Mk 6 had more punch though. I'd imagine the Mk7 will be a similar story to get more power. I'm sure it's still one of the best engines in the world for power, torque and fuel economy. I thought I've heard you can change the volume or bass of the sound actuator thingy via the touch screen.
I have loved my GTI's but I'm looking around at other stuff at the moment. I've been disappointed with what VW are offering now and their customer service. I had a number of warranty claims with both the Mk5 and 6.
I would think the performance pack would have the same type of power delivery, so a bit less down low but the overseas reports are pretty impressive. It's just extremely disappointing that they wont offer a manual.
I'm sure the Mk7 will be a brilliant car but I'm probably looking elsewhere.

That's a nice almost matte black finish. Is it a standard color? Or was it a reflection?

I agree that the R might be the better option this time around, provided that it is well priced still!

You would hope so, considering that the Audi S3 has a price tag of $59, 990, and if its similar to previous models, the Audi has a longer standards list compared to the Golf R, so hopefully the price on the new Golf R will competitive, but they don't have much room to move given that the GTI will be just under $50k when ever it gets released.

My lease company is trying to get a quote together for me on a GTI but VAG hasn't released any fleet pricing yet so he can't tell me what its going to cost. Is this sort of thing normal for VW? Makes it pretty hard to sell a car when you wont tell someone how much it will be and because I want some options it will have to be built so I need to get cracking if I go the GTI. Has anyone managed to get a fleet price yet?
