I pretty much agree with these sentiments after my drive today

I think you would get use to the progressive steering though it feels like a ridiculously relaxed car to drive and still really comfortable even in sport setting

Seeing the mk6 vs the mk7 next to each other the mk7 definitely looks a lot sharper

I have ordered my New Golf GTI (black with bixenons) arriving around jan14'-feb14' and was reading in the forums about tinting.

Does the GTI come stock with some sort of factory tinting?
This is in reference to MK6 Front Tint to match factory 'Dark Tint' option posted by Corey_R where he states there is a "factory/dark/privacy tint".

I live in WA so from what i understand the following applies:
    1. 35% VLT is allowed for driver windows
    2. 20% for passenger windows (pretty sure this applies to the rear window too) [behind the B pillar of the car]
    3. No tinting allowed on front windscreen

Most likely I'd purchase a 35% tint to the driver windows, approx 25% to the passenger windows.

Bear in mind, I know the car is new and not much information has been determined yet but someone out there might know

    Thanks in advance!

My G7 TDI Highline did not come with the VW Privacy Glass option and it was not an option I could order. I had my car tinted with 3m Colour Stable Automotive Window Film CS50 (non-metallic so as not to interfere with radio reception etc.). I'd check with your dealer to see if the GTI comes with the Privacy Glass as standard. If it does come with Privacy Glass the tinting company can put different grade films on the front and rear so as to make the whole car look the same.

I don't think privacy glass comes with the GTI, but my only basis for thinking this is because it is touted as one of the features of the Performance Pack model (on a list of other features which distinguish from the regular GTI)

Volkswagen to look at hot diesel Golf and three-door GTI as limited-run specials
    By BYRON MATHIOUDAKIS
VOLKSWAGEN is still contemplating launching the new-generation Golf GTD performance diesel model in Australia, as well as the three-door GTI.
But these niche vehicles may still be upwards of 12 months away, as the company will not commit to them as permanent members of the Golf club after very limited sales of the previous- generation versions.
The GTI three-door in particular struggled to account for more than five per cent of total Golf volume, despite being keenly priced at $38,990, compared to its more expensive five-door sibling.
In the interim, Volkswagen will concentrate on establishing the completely redesigned GTI five- door, as well as its higher-output GTI Performance and the flagship Golf R 4Motion all-wheel-drive models that
    will follow during 2014.
Speaking at the Mk7 Golf GTI five-
door launch in Tasmania last week, Volkswagen Group Australia managing director John White revealed that fans of both the GTD and three-door iterations should not lose hope, particularly if there is enough groundswell demand for them in their new seventh-generation guise.
“Right now it is not on the plan for the GTD,” he said. “The jury is still out about what the potential opportunity is with the car in this market, but currently there are no immediate plans.
“(However) it doesn’t stop us considering it as a special-edition model for later on, but in the same way we may want to consider the three-door GTI as a special-edition example.
“But to have it in the line-up based
    GTD
on the sales result of the previous generation, it is not something that we are going to bring in as a permanent staple in our line-up.
“It’s not out of the question, but we were looking at about a five per cent installation rate on the previous- generation (GTI three-door). It does give you a lower entry price point, obviously, and that will appeal to certain numbers of our clients.
“But we are going to focus on the five-door right now. We will only bring in the others once we evaluate demand from dealers and from our customers.
“I don’t want to discount it as a now- or-never (proposition) ... but we are trying to keep the line-up as simple as possible. That won’t appease everyone.

What about a special limited run of Manual Trans Golf GTI PP? This Dutch fellow reckons DSG does not suit the PP GTI:

rather than an optioned up gti or PP. the base model golf R will still be the ONE. should undercut audi, merc or bmw for anything they could do.
    Once had a Red mk6 GTI + DSG + leather + sunroof + mdi + towbar

I am a MK5 GTi owner and I had a drive of the DSG MK7 GTi today. I had read/watched lots of reviews of the new car and was expecting to have a big grin on my face but I was surprised that the low rev throttle response of the MK7 seemed to be worse than the MK5 (felt distinctly more go when over about 2200 RPM and in S model though) as I hadn't picked up any similar comments in any of the reviews. Am I just being mislead by additional refinement in the car or additional turbo lag vs the DSG MK5?

Other impressions that I had were that the seats were wider than the 5 and the seat flatter and less comfortable. I am also not very fond of the shiny finishes to the interior. I like the 5 steering wheel more but the 7 one was fine. I didn't mind the progressive steering. Back seats seemed more comfortable and a little more spacious. Like the larger boot. Mirrors seem smaller than the 5. Acceleration when above 2k RPM felt great. Not sure how much noise was the "sound actuator" but was also accompanied a louder soundtrack, would probably prefer for that to be dropped.

Overall I was left thinking that I really need to have a look at some of the other options around, A250/R/A3 Quattro/S3. Does anyone think that the power pack version of the GTi will have any difference in the power delivery?
