What's the logic behind this? really, just asking, not being rude at all. I'm at a loss as to why you cannot have a sunroof with 19in wheels. Technical limitation perhaps? maybe too much vibration into the cabin and onto the sunroof?

HOw am I being rude? Just pointing out logic.

The PP isn't really the top of the range. The Golf R takes that mantle. VWA have bundled the dynamic curve bixenons (euro 355) , a bit alcantara trim (which is a 750 euro option in Germany), 19 inch mags (600 euro) and the PP option and created a pack. All added up it adds euro 4610 to a german golf GTI.
Those xenons are $2,150 as an option here. Ouch

    Weights

Gleaning over the weight disparity between Man-Trans/DSG and Std/PP Golf 7 GTI. Following is a brochure from Pullman Volkswagen in the United Kingdom. Be mindful that spec level varies between continents.

    Std Man-Trans: 1351kgs.
    Std DSG: 1370kgs.
    PP Man-Trans: 1382kgs.
    PP DSG: 1402kgs.

Power Pack adds 32kgs exactly where you don't want it ... over the front axle. The bigger brakes add extra unsprung weight, which is even worse as unsprung weight has a multiplier of at least 4 or more -v- sprung weight. Same goes for the heavier 19" wheels, more unsprung weight to detract from performance. U.K. brochure doesn't appear to take account of the heavier 19" wheels. So the PP in DSG is likely to be 45kgs more than the Std Man-Trans GTI ... about the weight of a small fat kid.

This has me thinking that for the general day to day grind and cross country touring, the lighter Std Man-Trans Golf 7 GTI is the one to have, as long as you're driving below 8/10ths and not taking off from standstill too abruptly.

Volkswagen Australia may be basing their bundled options on the competition in the market (i.e. Renault RS265), rather than what Volkswagen owners desire. I care not for all the bling options. Bi-Xenons are over-rated, fancy rear lights for those that spend too much time doing their hair in the mirrior. The Dynamic chassis control is good, but in quality of actual dampers ... it's like having a cheap electronic device with many automations, but not a great deal of fidelity (i.e. Cheap Chinese Stereo -v- Bose, Pioneer, Alpine stereo with less buttons & automation).

Not sure why Volkswagen Aus lists the Man-Trans GTI as 1313kgs ... this may be unladen weight?

    Cheers.

If you don't like the car...don't compromise and buy it, I certainly wouldn't

    I prefer a 3 Door

I prefer a manual with the performance pack

End result, I wouldn't buy the GTi...period, especially with other brands attacking the market and willing to be flexible (Renault comes to mind).

    Folks,

Seems there's a load of passion in here for the new Mk7 Golf... and if like me you want your message to be heard then I suggest you use the following information as I have to get your message to Volkswagen.

    Volkswagen Twitter Account: @volkswagen

Volkswagen Customer Support Email: vgasupport@volkswagen.com.au or volkswagenassist@volkswagen.com.au

    Volkswagen Managing Director Email: John.White@volkswagen.com.au

    Volkswagen on Facebook: www.facebook.com/VolkswagenAustralia

As many of you have read in articles and posts in here... if we want a change in product options from VW then it's up to each of you to make your voice heard.

I would recommend (as I have) you send your concerns to Volkswagen in a professional manner, and who knows if enough of us raise concerns we may be able to use people power to make a change happen.

    Enjoy!

45kg should not be problem at least for married people ... just get divorced and with GTI P.P. you will be able to find some "45kg lighter" model/partner

    CoG

Re-reading my previous post ... difference between bog-stock Std Man-Trans GTI and top-line PP GTI DSG is more like 51kgs + (not 45kgs as prev. stated). To be fair: The extra weight of the PP GTI DSG is down low at or near the front axle. Ironic that some may purchase the Golf GTI PP DSG and then fork out another 3K+ for lightweight wheels to reduce un-sprung weight to enhance performance.

On another note: resale value of the MK6 Golf GTI is not great atm. Yes ... a combination of bad publicity from owners of Golf's, a double edged knife, and imo the fact that so many customers lease/novate lease their purchase and have to sell after 3-4 years to pay out residuals/refinance a new purchase.

Who knows... but you can't here or in the UK (or europe). It probably does make the ride marginal in sports mode.

Here's the rub... In europe the GTI gets Bixenons as standard (yet 17 inch wheels and no sat nav). But they aren't the dynamic aim ones that are optional on the GTI here.
To match the bixenon spec you get as an option on our GTI you would need to fork out an extra 355 euros in Germany.
So, yes, the xenon option on the GTI here is expensive but its the top spec stuff.

The alcantara trim in our PP pack is a 750 euro option in Germany.

I remember threads about people wanting certain options put together in a pack at a reduced cost/quicker delivery. VW delivers and now people want a multitude of options again - lol
