    From Motor Magazine's twitter account:
There are currently no plans to offer a manual VW GTI Performance Pack, but if enough people make enquiries that situation could change.

VW has lost the plot!!! Seriously... You'd think after the last 6 months they'd do anything to get customers? Fail again... Looks like it is seriously unlikely our next car will be a VW. A fact I twittered to VW... not that they would give a toss.

I don't get it. VW offers 3 versions of the GTI (man, dsg and PP) covering a wide price range (and cheaper than the rest of the world) and people whinge.

Merc offers 1 x 5 door A250 model (no manual, no lsd) at a high price (50K+ORC) and people can't seem to wait to get one.

^ Hey, peeps gotta whinge about something

I love the VW dsg, the 6 speed in my GTI leaves the slush box autos for dead (still delivers driving thrills). Looking forward to the PP, great package IMHO.

If I still drove a manual (knee issue precludes it) I'd be heading straight to the Renault Megane RS265 Trophee, clearly the best manual hot hatch around. Alternatively the Ford Focus St looks the goods. Plenty of choices for all

Totally agree with you on this.

The wife and I are off to the dealer tomorrow to drive the DSG GTI and will seriously think of buying one after a drive. I'm not whinging about price or options. You either like it or you don't.

I think cheap isn't the operative word. It's value. The GTI isn't particularly good value compared to some of its competitors, even if it is cheaper. Worse when you factor in depreciation when you add options.

Great to see them in the flesh. I had $1000 down on a guaranteed first batch car with a VIN number. I am told it is at the VW dealer. Looking forward to a test drive on the weekend and total peace of mind that if I don't like I can pull out with no penalty. Mind you I can't see how I wont like it?! Just waiting to hear what date I can take delivery.

    Which competitors are better value?
