Yes, VW does have voice recognition on the highline model.At least this is what the VW brochure says. As I said before, the car has aspecific button for this function marked with the word "Voice". As I understand, in the comfortline model,this button is marked "Mute". VW dealer and VW Australia do notdispute that the Highline has this functionality.

This is probably the wrong thread. Anyone interested in a GTI doesn't own a Mk 7 yet

VW disabled voice control for Australia with the Mk7, and possibly with the last MY update for the Mk6. I've enabled it for my Mk6 Golf via VCDS, and there's a good chance that someone will work out how to do it with the Mk7 later on. Traffic/Speed cameras were able to be added to the Mk6 sat nav later on as well. These things just take time.

Portable sat nav makers like Garmin have to work a lot harder to provide perceived value/features otherwise they wouldn't have much of a market left given most people now have a smart phone with Google Maps and a half-decent data plan if their post-paid contract is <4 years old. Some people also prefer the convenience of having maps one button push away, without having to remember to bring the Garmin/TomTom, stick it to the window, run the power cable across the dash, wait for it to boot up, etc. Unless you're a taxi driver or courier you don't really need proper navigation as you know the area, but just having the map displayed with no programmed destination is handy for spotting alternative routes if traffic is bad, etc.

I do this all the time, very handy for spotting side streets to duck into!

You will find the following in the"Specifications" section on page 36 of the document above (about 1/3 from the-top-of-thepage)

For the entry above , the table in the specifications page saysthat this option is NOT available for the 90TSSI, it is OPTIONAL for the 90TSIcomfortline, and it is STANDARD for the103TSI Highline and the 110TSI Highline.
As I said in my last post, neither the Dealership nor VW Australiadispute that the Voice command function is part of the Highline series. Theproblem is how to make it work

Ryan_R: I feel like I'm fighting a lone battle here against the assertion that VW does not support Voice Control for the Mk7 Golf. I'm not sure of the basis of your arguement that VW Highline models (in Australia) do not come standard with Voice Command but my contention (that they do have this functionality) is supported by the factual material that has been published by VW Australia (as quoted in my reply to pologti18t).
If you need further proof, you will aslo find mention of this functionality by a simple Google search (with the filter set to Australia). For example, I got the following quotation using Google search from "Between the Axles"

Volkswagen has launched its seventh generation Golf in Australia with a lower starting price, more powerful base engine and a standard 5.8-inch touchscreen entertainment system.
103TSI Highline (pictured above) and there’s a more powerful 103kW/250Nm version of the 1.4-litre engine, while the 7-speed DSG is standard. I already acknowledged earlier that VW has disabled the Voice Control feature for Australian cars late last year/early this year - their reason being because of issues with our accents. There's really nothing to add. Just wait until the VCDS guys work out which bit turns it on/off and you'll be able to enable it yourself if you borrow or buy the cable. Just like how I can choose in my Mk6 Golf whether the voice control button is enabled or if it works as a Mute button.

The marketing stuff is just a copy from overseas and something they've forgotten to alter.
