I'm probably in the minority, but I think it's time they lost the tartan.
I have a deposit down, and earlier this week had the discussion on which set of options I wanted. They know the cars they have been allocated (specific colors, options etc) and there were 5 still left at the dealer I am working with in melbourne. Other messages were that pricing start oct, their internal staff training on or around the 9th oct (?), and car availability 2nd half of Oct; before 1st Nov.
This line up with anyone else?
S3 doesn't really sound all that exciting
Audi S3 2013 model review | evo
Ha ha!
"The S3 spec sheet shows outputs of 296bhp and 280lb ft in a car weighing 1395kg. That means 0-62mph is dealt with in 5.2sec, or 0.4sec less if you opt for the six-speed S-tronic twin-clutch gearbox (a £1480 option), while top speed is limited to 155mph. Allied to this Porsche 911 Carrera-rivalling pace is the revelation that both gearboxes achieve over 40mpg on the combined cycle."
YAWN...oh
I wasn't mentioning the performance of the S3... it was this:
" But on a rougher road surface it quickly starts to feel out of its depth, the damping struggling to keep the body under control and a surprising amount of float developing."
Evo Nov has a test of the A45, S3, Focus ST, GTi/PP and MEgane RS265. Interesting results
Journos are so inconsistent. Henry Catchpole is good and I respect EVO reviews generally, but I don't buy the statement "the S3’s engine is a cracker... lag-free". Motor magazine (Georg Kacher, one of the world's most respected motoring journos) compared the S3, M135i and A45 AMG a couple of issues ago, and described the S3 as very laggy.
Of course it all comes down to what you're used to and consider to be acceptable. Just a pity that reviews really need to be taken with a grain of salt.
