And especially that if the price for the GTI comes out at $47k like the article last week suggested, then there isn't much room to move in terms of pricing once the price of the new Golf R is announced given that the Audi S3 is at $59,990.
It is very clear that no one has much of an idea how much the new GTI will be and what will come standard etc etc etc. It is all conjecture. Why can't we all be patient and wait for confirmation before making rash decisions. I waited 6 months for my GTI, with the options I wanted. If you really must get your hands on the first batch coming in please don't complain about the car having options you don't want or need.
My dad signed for a GTI a few years ago before the Mk5 had been released in Australia as they said they had a car in the first batch to arrive. Then his car magically disappeared and Camberwell VW had him by the balls. They kept blowing him off for 6 months, promising him a car 4 or 5 times and finally saying it would be another 8 months (14months after putting his $2000 deposit down). i dragged dad in there and demanded a refund and cancellation of the deal. Only getting this when we demanded to speak to the dealer principle. Putting money down on a car that doesn't even exist is fraught with danger and virtually destroys any bargaining power you might have.
And don't complain about how much you are being "forced" to pay.
It's very hard waiting for something but sometimes it's worth it.

Well said. People are a tad nuts to put deposits on cars (especially with options) when the dealers have no idea on prices or stock. Being first in queue means nothing if none of the cars match your specs.
As for a 1500 price rise... The outgoing 5 door was 40500 + ORC. So the MK7 (if it follows the 1500 increase rumour) will probably be $41950 + ORC. Not sure how that gets to 48,990.
I find rather bizarre price is still actually unknown, when putting a deposit on the a250 it was 5-6 months before I got it and knew exactly the price including onroads etc which was all on the contract. Also on the contract was the clause "subject to test drive". Which is not a big deal to include. Heck what if you finally get to drive one and hate it or find its not as good as something else or not enough jump up from what you have.
Pre ordering is not a big deal as long as take some little precautions.
But price is pretty basic. That's got to be known how can have a contract without a price ? Sounds crazy to me !
Once had a Red mk6 GTI + DSG + leather + sunroof + mdi + towbar
now have a gorgeous Red Merc A250 AMG Sport
That price was inc orc iirc fyi btw
Looking at a "new car price list" I have in front of me (not VW), drive away prices consist of Dealer Delivery - $2750 and On Road Cost - $3235, so that's an extra $6000 on top of "Manufactures List Price".
So if you say the new GTI is approx. $42k, that would make it approx $47k - $48k drive away!
