Pictures on the NZ website show it with the rear LED's but not even mentioned as an exterior feature/option in specs sheet

looks like we'll get the same cost down GTI with similar options list?

There's a chance you get the rear LED's when you option the Xenons. If not, it'll be the same popular retrofit as it was for the mk6 GTI.

They will be the standard reflector type ones.
The LED's are kept for the R and special edition (adidas/Ed35) ones.

I believe that was a VW Germany decision for the MK6, ie no VW division could spec a normal GTI with rear LEDs from the factory. The MK7 GTI its available standard in most of Europe with rear leds ie VW division can decide to spec it or not, or make it available with the pack.

Thats a mk6 and yes it does. Its standard spec as with the R and the special adidas and ed35 GTIs but thats by VW Germanys design.

My angle here is that the normal mk6 GTI never had the option for rear LEDs from the factory in any bit of the world, whereas each VW division now has the option to include them standard or optionally according to their markets.

Will that mean we get them as part of the Xenons? Maybe, but it's VWA's choice not a limitation by VW as a whole.

Not true. In many European markets - including Germany - the Mk6 GTI was available with LED tails as a factory-fitted option. These LEDs were the lighter cherry red colour, as opposed to the darker smoked colour seen on the R. That option was not offered outside of continental Europe AFAIK.
