the myplates rta site says it can take 3 weeks for the new plates to arrive however so I have two questions.

    1) Can anyone think of a smart way to handle this? I guess I could hold back picking up the car but I don't know if I can wait lol
    2) Can somebody confirm if the white euro style plates fit the Golf GTI's default plate holder on the front and the best way to put them on?

    cheers.
I'm in a similar boat. My GTI-PP will arrive within the next 2 weeks and plates will arrive roughly the same time. I have asked the dealer to take away the premium plate (save $100). If the plates are ready before the car, then it will be fitted with the car, if not then it will be delivered with standard plates.
Re: plate size, the classic euro white (all start with "N") will fit the front plate holder. If you are restyling your existing personalised plate, then it will more likely be one of the euro icon plates. In which case, the front will be smaller than the plate holder.

Euro on the front works fine; where you may want to consider your options is on the rear and consider one of the Lakin brackets for the plate, and maybe plate covers to tidy up the look. Basically the bracket allows you to utilise one set of mounting holes whether it is a standard plate or full size plate - there are some threads on here about it.

I may have a full size Euro bracket available cheaply if it doesn't go with the car so you can PM if interested.

Long story short, my insurance policy covers a complete replacement car as it is within 2 years. As per my signature, you can see I have the regular GTI but lucky enough to have bi-xenons, leather and panoramic roof options fitted. What I have been let to believe however from reading this forum is that bi-xenons are no longer available on regular GTI's. My insurer says that they have to get all the options as per sales contract and if not available, then I do have the option of a complete payout.

If this were to happen, I probably would end getting the GTI performance (no roof however). What would be a reasonable price to expect for a GTI performance with leather?

PS: this is such a first world dilemma but I am sure you all would understand. GTI without bi-xenons or GTI performance without roof
Ok so I received a full payout from RACQ last week and of course went car shopping again. Drove the A250 but I just didn't think it was a drivers car. Cabin was a bit too claustrophobic IMO. Popped into a VW dealership today and nek minute, signed off on a gti performance with leather and DA. Got a deal that was hard to say no to. Pick up car next week Thursday!! Can't wait....again!

Been thinking of trading in the 2009 Polo GTI for a 2015 Golf GTI.

Are people picking up stock GTI's for sub $40k? That'd be the budget.
(wish this section had a GTI prices thread).

There are a lot of pricing comments buried in this thread.

You'd be struggling to pick up an early release (2013) second hand for sub $40k so zero chance of a new MY15 coming in at that level.

A stock manual GTI in QLD which is one of the cheapest states (the cheapest?) is still a tick over $47k new - you'd be doing really well to grab that at even $42.5k.

I've got plenty of interest at $40k plus for my second hand MY14 GTI although it is DSG.

With a corporate discount and no options I think you'd have to be happy if you could get it to $42k.

    Thanks for the info.

As a starting point, what do you think a stock, low km (under 30k) , excellent condition '09 Polo GTI should shave off the price of a Golf GTI?

That may be an option. Need to investigate...

A ****eload less than what you'll get finding a decent private buyer and just dealing upfront.

You'd do well to get $9k for trade in these days, so I guess a change over of $33-34k would be around the mark (at a guess, obviously get the right dealer at the right time and it could be better).

I say find a private buyer who wants a low mileage GTI for around $13k, pick up my GTI for $40k odd and you're change overs down to $27k and you're laughing.

Thanks, Dutch. I'm after the manual GTI. What's the reason you're selling a new-ish GTI? You hardly got time to enjoy it?

Btw, just done some reading re: red line in headlights - is the only way to get them on a non-PP GTI via Bi-Xenons? I thought I read Bi-Xenons weren't available as an option for GTI? Has that changed or do you need purchase a Extras pack to get them?

Last I checked (few weeks ago), Bi-Xenon is no longer an option on GTI. It is standard on PP, which does not come with manual. Hence, manual GTI = no bi-xenon = no red ling in headlights...
