All that I can say about the price is that it WILL be cheaper than before. Jimi hit the nail on the head, they want to sell more Rs. And why would anyone say it as going to cost the same as before? The mk7 is considerably better value than before.

Well anyways, fingers crossed that e get the PP. Eventually!

It's obvious the R will be (considerably?) cheaper, otherwise it would cost almost as much as the Audi S3 and wouldn't sell at all. If you were waiting for the GTI, you might find yourself waiting even longer for the R now, which is good and bad.

The current Golf GTI starts at $39K + ORC. We shall see what VW do with the new model.
Considering the 103 Highline came on the market at the same price point as the outgoing 118 TSI but with extra equipment would suggest that maybe the GTI will follow the same path. Price stability (protect resale values) but with extra equipment added.
Sat Nav and 18inch wheels as standard

For comparison... Focus ST is 38K+ORC here. I can't see VW undercutting that. Everywhere else in the world the Focus ST is noticeably cheaper than a GTI.

Of course the elephant in the room is Skoda. The Octavia vRS will need to be cheaper than a Golf GTI.

No Xenons means no red stripe continuing through the headlights. It's a toss up between them and leather for the most overpriced option!

"To further complicate things, there'll be the stripper 'R' version along next year, and in March comes a further-tweaked GTI with a performance pack which will add a bit more power, better brakes and a tricky electronically controlled mechanical LSD."

Sigh, I really wish we will be at least able to order the 3 Door GTI here, I'd get it in a heartbeat.

Don't see much point in getting a 5 Door GTI over a Octavia RS tbh.

Except one's a VW with good resale value that looks modern, has great street cred and has that German heritage. The other is a Skoda that has crap resale value, awkward dull looks and far from premium market place cred. It's VAG's "cheap" brand.
