First cars arriving next week in Australia! And no PP on them... Such a sad, sad thing that we're not getting the the "REAL" GTI.

This article suggests that the pp will be available in Oz from 2014: Drive - VW Golf GTI Performance Review

Alright, what I can confirm is this. They have decided against the PP, hence no trick electronic diff. Secondly, the GTI will come in under 40k. We will get the electronic handbrake. No word yet on xenons, sat nav units officially. What I can say is that they want to differentiate the GTI from the R. Still have no idea what is going to happen with the 19 PP equipped GTIs heading downunder in the second shipment. None of all this makes sense, we want the real GTI, without the PP, we will forever be subconsciously thinking of how the car could have been better... Us journos are really at their throats now... Oh and there should be 3 GTIs on Aussie roads now near Sydney, they'll be in our final spec. Keep your eyes wide open! Vwa are taking photos of them for their materials.

LOL... oh please. Those journos (SMH for one) who on one hand praise a car then on the other have no qualms stabbing the knife into the brand. Most journos should keep their mouths shut and be lucky they get cars to drive round for FREE.
Much like politicians they live in an unreal world.

No problem with having a base GTI under 40k, but even so if you tick a bunch of option boxes you'd expect to head north of 50k anyway, so why not make the ediff one of those options when every car review so far is telling buyers to spend the extra on the PP.

Given that the new S3 is 11k cheaper and they need to fit a Golf R under that price I can sort of see their dilemma. Guess there will be a lot more R owners this time around, bad news is the extra long wait.

Exactly the vibe that I sensed when I had a chat to them today. We have a weird, relatively small market here. Im begged them to bring the PP, the response I got was that it is still under consideration. How much longer do they want to 'consider' if they should get it for our market?

I don't think you understand one thing here, in the automotive journo world, its Fairfax vs. the rest. They are considered to be unknowledgeable, biased, and unable to produce quality pieces of journalism.

My previous point was that we are REALLY pestering them about the PP. But honestly, we enthusiasts, are just a small minority of weirdos who like cars, who on earth is going to listen to our two cents? Rest assured that your views are being put forward, just listen VWA!

Yup, it will definitely be before October.

And from what they hinted to us today, it looks like the car will be drive-away for around 39 grand.

I put down a deposit at my local dealer today (2011 gti just got written off... ) for a mkVII gti. I read this thread beforehand, and while at my local major VW dealer in Melb pumped them for info. They knew very little and were sceptical of hearing anything before the cars arriving... They said even pricing may not be released till a couple of days before cars arrived. They were rather jaundiced about VW Aust ability to communicate details ahead of time like pricing, features, availability date etc. This feeling was apparently based on how the MkVII launch went earlier this year.
They did say once they have a deposit it goes into the ordering and stock allocation system which nationally influences what hey get. They said out of the base stick of cars arriving, each dealer will get an allocation influenced by the pre orders out of the national pool. So this seems to be positive in terms of getting a go at preferred color & features. Didn't bother about performance pack ... Would be nice..

It does puzzle me if cars are on their way (as per this thread):
A) why is the available date Oct/nov?
B) why is there this whole uncertainty about features.. Since cars are made.
I can understand final pricing being more open, but not the above. Anyone know?

Very good point, if the cars are out there, why cant we find out what spec they are?
