The deal brokered with the AMA several years ago offering members a discount does not require you to be an incorporated company. The company discount outlined by others above is a completely separate entity, and does rely on the criteria as listed.
To receive the AMA discount you must be a member for at least three months.

Same three month membership as individual with each of the state based law societies (and presumably numerous other professional bodies).

Yep, this is how I accessed it. Members of the ICAA and CPA Australia also qualified.

However as I've mentioned previously the discount appears a lot less this time around, but I was able to negotiate in addition to it..

The corporate program has been tightened significantly in the last 12 months or so, yes.

To clarify one point: the organisation or company you are a member of or work for does not explicitly need to be a client of VWA. However, VWA maintains a list of eligible entities; if you are a member or an employee of one, then you have a shot; otherwise you don't. You should ask your dealer whether your employer or any of your professional association memberships are eligible. This list has been culled substantially in the last year or so.

(Contrasting this to the Audi corporate program, if you work for any company in the ASX200 - amongst others - you're eligible.)

Might have to source the updated criteria and list on the quiet some time.

I'd be somewhat annoyed if they culled my professional membership (as someone who can and has directed business to VW through my client base) v some spreadsheet jockey at a top 200 ASX company who does nothing for the brand.

I used the corporate discount with my GTI the dealer just handed me a form letter and asked me to put it on a company letter head the week before I picked it up so I wrote it myself and got HR to sign it. It would be easy enough to put any business name on the top....just sayin. The corp discount is $2000 then anything the dealer is willing to do with on road costs etc.

Hey guys, do your DRLs dim when the indicator is on? Sworn I saw it happen on a regular Mk 7 but no dice on mine when it's stationery + I flicked the indicator on (might be because it's in P?).

Mines got the LED DRLs and they don't go out with the indicator on. The standard DRLs do however go out when indicator is on.

I think people took my comments the wrong way.

By all means the dealer pulling some 2% figure out of thin air is something that he's going by, but then it sounds like the OP isn't exactly going to buy a car from him. All dealers can sell for whatever they like, but ultimately the sales manager/dealer principal will determine how low they will go

The above said, i've read prices from other threads on this forum which are straight up unattainable (i.e. over 1k below cost price after holdback etc.. ) and significantly lower than i can get as a fleet buyer (who buys 1k+ cars per year). Sure, you MIGHT find a dealership that needs to move just one more car to hit target and its 5pm on the 31st of June and you've got cash in hand, but thats the exception not the rule.

Fleet gives the dealers another bucket of money to stick their hand into when they're offering a discount to you, but the main reason they're so keen to get you on the corporate program is that they can often not give up as much of their own margins as the manufacturer is giving up 2-3k on the price.

Moral of the story, Shop around

I must admit I haven't come across any VW pricing that seemed unattainable in recent threads on here (I can't comment on the Audi stuff), can you give any examples?

I'm comfortable with what I paid, which equated to just over 10% off rrp. Now some of this was tied up in the corporate gig - say 4%. The balance was negotiation and tied up in trade in which was done at wholesale value (I know this as the same source was acquiring the vehicle at the same price regardless of where I shopped). I guess if another 1k or 2% was squeezed from that then it leaves the true discount closer to 4% which is closer to the OPs original dealer approach.

Agreed it pays to shop around, but I'd be disappointed if people were posting fake prices on here as it's not helping anyone.

Conversely I know I paid top dollar for my 6, as one came up about four months before my order was due and in 2010 nobody had much wiggle room if they wanted to try and jump up the queue.
