Mk7 Golf GTI Discussion Thread

The blue issue - I'm happy for the R to keep Rising Blue, I'm thinking the dark blue they have on the Polo GTI as an alternative.. if nothing else it keeps with the dark conservative choices GTI buyers seem to pick. The show car blue might just be too crazy for us otherwise!

3 door/5 door - I don't see the problem in keeping a 3 door option for those that want it.

Manual/DSG - keep a manual option for those that want it. Seems like it won't be long before this might be a real selling point.

Again I understand that for stock ordering/control/costs its best to keep options and choices to a minimum, but given the factory produces these options and so long as the buyer is ok to possibly wait 6+ months for a special order.. just allow it.

I think maybe with the dealer stock only ordering ones with common options and combinations is a good idea but to get something that is not a common option or colour I'm sure most buyers would be happy to wait for it.

Most people would even be happy to pay a few dollars more to get an uncommon (but standard palette) colour.

The dealer might what a substantial, non-refundable, deposit for something like "Violet Touch Perleffekt". :)

In some circumstances it has obviously been done for other models, there was a recent sale of a gorgeous red Passat from a member of this forum, and that was by special order IIRC.

A few dollars more? Have a look at the vw.de site. Uncommon colour is 3 to 4 times more than the standard metallic paint option.
Dealers don't want any possibility of being left with a car they can't sell. A non-refundable deposit can still leave the dealer with a metallic kermit green GTI that can't be on-sold.

This is why I specified standard palette. For example, there was a blue MkVI GTI available overseas but not here.

Any spec rumour updates?

Josh Dowling speculated on GTI specs here:

From that source, as many are probably already aware, Thirst: 6.0L/100km (manual), 6.4L/100km (DSG), so one less reason to get the DSG option on the Mark VII GTI.


In the article, Mr Dowling, appropriately enough, refers to the new GTI as the "flagship".

And Golf 7 has just arrived back! Nope, nothing new on the GTI... I'll keep everyone posted on any updates... And I'll have another steer of the Golf soon as my last drive was way too short for a detailed analysis. I'll compare it to the 1 Series, A-Class, the new A3 that I just drove as well as the Focus, Mazda 3, Astra and i30...
