Mk7 Golf DSG Gearbox Issues, Questions and Discussion

I was trolling thru ERWIN last night and came across some repair manuals for the golf 7 and noticed for the first time that the 7 speed dsg has a new part designation. Used to be 0AM since the scirocco [2008] and remained so for various other models after.

The new golf has a 7 speed dsg with dry clutch and max torque specs but it has a designation code of 0CW.

Does this mean there has been an update? A possible fix for te shuddering:juddering in previous 7speed DSGs?

Trolling as in leaving abusive comments or trawling as in browsing? :-p

Jokes aside the only tidbit i can offer is that the clutch plate materials were changed this year and were available to oz from around march. That might account for it.

I did a quick Google search and found this... Seems to be the Audi designation for their version of the 7DSG. What is not clear is if this is still the DQ200 or some new line of DSG.

I had to use google translate. At the bottom of the thread someone found a PDF for the 0CW.

    Good sleuthing Rawcoppa!

I wish I could troll VW for the intermittent juddering I get

Anyways the code isn't for Audi alone. I have workshop repair manuals for VW golfs AND Audi A1s which both reference 0AM for the DQ200 DSG. That code is shared. This means the Golf 7 and A3 share the same transmission once again. The Audi designations is the term "S-tronic".

The workshop manual for the golf 7 dsg seems almost identical to that for the jetta/golf dsg. Same 1.7 litres of fluid for clutch. Same 1 litre for mechatronic unit. The Golf 7 document is from October 2012. I highly suspect it's just an updated part that can hopefully fix the judders and be retrofitted to previous cars equipped with DQ200 DSG.

On another note I was digging deeply and found the tranny code for the jetta hybrid is different as well.

0CG. Seems almost identical to the 0AM except that this one has 2.1 litres of hydraulic fluid. I wish I had access to ETKA to check these things.

My parents are thinking of buying the base Skoda octavia which uses the same unit. I havent been reading all the big sticky threads religiously but by the same token nobody has created a thread about any DSG issues.

Would it be safe to assume that for now there are no false positive nor judder issues with this new unit?

I wonder when I could go back to a twin clutch car VAG or otherwise. I am thinking of going back to a hatch, but all the good looking hot ones have a twin clutch.

I think by it's very nature a dry clutch dsg will have its quirks in terms of judder when it has heated up in stop start traffic especially if the 0cw is setup like the 0am version to up shift to gear 2 at very low rpm when accelerating from 10 kph in D mode.

If driven like you would a manual and drive in manual mode you have much less chance for judder.

The false neutrals I suspect vw has gotten to the bottom of considering that they actually know what causes mechatronic failure and did the massive recall as well as the fact that most 2012 cars haven't had mechatronic failure as they are filled with the "right" gearbox oil. This backs up the theory that they actually know the cause this time.

If I were you I would join a forum dedicated to the golf 7 and ask questions specifically about the 7 speed. By now some people must have experienced the oddities of the 0cw if there are any.
