    Also several Passat taxis in Brisbane.

    I did read somewhere that they were recommending they not be used for commercial use, read Taxis, in India for this reason.

    That would be the reason the standard petrol Golf has a torque converter auto in the USA.
    I think on the diesels (wet clutch DSG) and the Jetta Hybrid now have DSG (GTI/R excluded)

    The reason would be cost for the entry level Golf in the USA.

    Just saying... start/stop traffic on the M1 during Summer is the worst experience I've ever had in my Mk6 Golf. It was so bad that I'd get off the freeway and take a massive detour on side streets that took me an extra 45 minutes in travel time. Can't remember if dealer works ever improved that problem.

    Ive never seen a 7 speed overheat, I dont think you will. Its just information.

    Same as if your oil pressure light turns on it will tell you what to do. Not that its going to happen.

    They use normal torque converter autos in alot of VWs instead of DSG in the USA. Cost is the not the issue
    If it was they wouldn't stick a turbo 1.8L engine in a normal golf.

    DSG - Changing Gear with Paddles

    I've owned a 2015 GTI with performance pack for 8 months or so.
    I'm sure that the paddle gear shifts worked from programme D or S in the past, and was only deactivated by pulling the right paddle forward for a second or so.
    Recently the paddle would operate in D or S but only as long as you continued to accelerate, then would quickly change back to automatic mode D or S i.e. it would no longer allow me to use the paddles to change up or down.

    I have just had a 15,000 service and reported this issue for rectification, but was advised that there was no fault and in order for the paddle shift to remain operational I needed to leave the selector lever in the Triptronic gate.

    This is contrary to the Owners Manual (page 271 refer).

    Can anyone with the paddle shifts fitted to their GTI advise if they are able to use the paddle shifts successfully in D or S mode or that the only way of using them for a prolonged period is in the triptronic gate?


    Any advice appreciated.

    The behaviour you described is consistent with the Polo GTI dealer loan car I drove mid last year. Tapping the left paddle in D down shifts, but the car takes over as soon as you are done accelerating. The only way to keep it full paddle was to shift into tiptronic mode.

    In the MK6, it needs to be in full manual mode for the your paddles and +/- gear shifts to be on 100% of the time (bar shifting back into 1st gear etc.)

    In D or S, you can still manually down/upshift but it goes back into D or S mode automatically after a few moments if you do not make another down/upshift. However, you should be able to use the paddle or +/- gear lever even AFTER it goes back into the automatic D/S mode. Something seems wrong if you can't ...

    As agentthumb implies, when you are done accelerating the car returns to D mode. This is normal DSG behaviour. Mine is the same as you describe.
