DSG pause at top of 1st gear - Golf R

Hi guys - do you ever find the DSG pause for a moment at the top of 1st gear with full throttle before changing to second?

No clunks - just a second or so pause before the change. What causes it and how can I avoid it? It doesn't happen every time. Now that I have the JB1 it appears to be more common from full throttle in 1st gear - but I also had it happen a few times stock.

    Any help appreciated.

ps. I don't think it has ever happened in full manual mode.

My 7 speed DSG does this - it was after an update to prevent a rough shift/clunk going into 2nd. It's less than a second, more like half a second (just feels long) where you feel power loss as the clutch is disengaged for a period and then re-engaged. Doesn't always do it, depends on how much acceleration i'm doing and what the engine load is, but sometimes it decides to do this if the conditions are right.

I wouldn't have expected it on the 6 speed wet clutch setup, but maybe its for the same reason - to prevent a rough shift from too fast a clutch engagement, it probably slips the clutch in, causing a delay.

And yes i never get it in manual gear change mode.

Probably there to stop you from smearing the contents of the DSG all over the road.

But however, see how it goes.

Because the shifts are slower in drive mode, it is caused by the engine hitting the limiter hence pause. You will notice in sport mode it won't do it as the shift is faster.

It happens to my s3 after apr stage1. More noticeable in S. I found that the lagging or pause become less noticeable or minimal with completely turning off ESC.
Have a try and share how u go please.

I notice this too with Revo Stage 2. Sometimes it hits the limiter, but mostly it just hangs. I think a DSG tune would be required. I think the engine is spinning up faster than the gearbox is expecting. Will try the traction off-off and see if it helps

Update: I fiddled around with the settings in the JB1 Map 6 by reducing boost levels above 5500rpm - and it has stopped the hang.

GTI DSG rough shift in manual mode 1st to 2nd

    Hi all,

Just about to click over 5000km on the GTI Performance, and it's been great so far - I'd never have expected it to be such a big step up from the mk6.

One thing that has me perplexed - in manual mode from a standing start, about 1 in 15 (or so) shifts from 1st to 2nd jolt or clunk quite heavily during the change - it's audible through the chassis. This tends to happen at mid throttle positions - not launching it by any means.

It's only first to second, only in manual mode, and tends to happen at mid rev / mid throttle range (2000 - 3500 rpm). It's not traction related, and also doesn't seem to feel engine mount related (I have experienced the shuddering / tramp caused by launching the mk6 - it's not that).

It feels much like the clutch packs are switching too quickly, or the computer isn't reducing the engine revs to match 2nd gear - a bit like hard changing a manual without the clutch.

    Any ideas?

I know the Mk5 and MK6 suffered quite badly from the soft engine mounts (in particular the mount under the engine) allowing alot of movement and transferring this into the cabin. Every tuning company was quick to release a engine mount poly insert to stop alot of the movement. This could quite possibly be the case on your car (there are several engine mount inserts on the market for the Mk7 already) and you are noticing it at those revs/throttle position as the car is creating a fair bit of torque at those revs.
