Mk7 Golf - Australian Specifications and Prices (Base, Comfortline and Highline)

Wife and I are looking at options to upgrade from our 2008 Polo Gti.

So yesterday we test drove two August Built and December registered 110TDI Highlines 6 Speed DSG. One had the the Comfort Pack with ACC and 2300ks. The other without ACC, had 192ks. Both hail damaged.
After all the words of assurance that a PDR expert could repair them for $1800.00 we agreed to think about their offer to sell it at $31500 DA on the ACC TDI. Now you then have to add on the costs of PDR for the hail damage, which in the dealers opinion was $1800 (who knows how much it actually would cost) so say $33,300.00. No Deal! (I know the Confort Pack adds $1300.00.)

Considering the current Special Offers until 31st March 2015 price the Golf 110TDI Highline from $34,990 Driveaway...........

Wife thought the Golf ride was a little harsh over some speed bumps near the dealership. I did not, I liked the whole TDI driveline, only drove a few k's but got a feel for it.

It seems that dealers really do like hail damage, do they claim the damage and then offer them for sale and make a killing?

Thoughts on this anyone one?

Two time Golf owner here (Mk 5 GTI + Mk 6 GTI). With new bub, we're looking at a station wagon (we dislike SUVs). Looked at the Passat wagon "special edition" runout - good value and features - but the interior is really dated.

Would consider a TSI Highline Golf Wagon but it's not part of the run-out promotion which makes the wagon at $38,568 a +$4,500 premium over the $33,990 runout hatchback! I also want leather and driver assist but leather can only come now with a $5k luxury pack (includes bi-xenons & sunroof) which makes the wagon $46,500 drive away (!!) before haggling. Likely to be a factory build so that reduces my haggling power.

The new Passat looks classy and the active display (if it comes to Oz) is bleeding edge but it won't come to our shores until later this year but more like 2016.

Thoughts? Should I buy something outside the VW family? If anyone has bought a fully optioned golf wagon, perhaps some guidance on how much discount I can expect?

WOW $46k for a 1.4 Golf wagon?!!! That's getting into some serious $$$

If I was in this market, the no-brainer would be the new Skoda Octavia RS 162TSI MY15.5 - same price as the little Golf, but 2.00TSI 162kw AND a slightly bigger body.

Agreed... $46k for a golf wagon is getting silly. They recently rejigged the packages to simplify them but I'm not sure it's such a great idea. Luxury pack at $5k???

Me thinks I'll hold off and see what develops. My dealer says there's no aus stock of golf wagons and new allocations aren't arriving until April/May.

I will have a closer look at the Skoda... good value for money and DNA is basically from the VW family. Skoda RS Wagon perhaps?

..except getting your hands on one of those is arguably even more difficult.

The depreciation is horrible (ok more horrible than on other cars) but great all up package and does tick both your boxes - wagon + some fun for you.

In the market for either a Golf 7, (or a VI, if we cannot find a good deal). Would like the highline, if possible, and need to buy relatively soon (within next few weeks).

Something like this would be ideal: 2013 Volkswagen Golf 7 103TSI Highline Direct-Shift Gearbox (Rel. Apr.)

Is that a reasonable deal?

We don't have that kind of money (but have the want and can pay in cash) and it has been 20 years since we've bought a car!

Alternatively a Golf VI or a Skoda if we can not find anything close to 20K.

I think the best price you'll get a highline for is $25k though it would have to be someone needing to sell.

You'll pick up a 90tsi for $20k alternatively I would look at a Mk6 103TDI or GTI which have the 6 speed DSG.

Would love a GTI but haven't been able to find one with reasonable k's under 26. And the highline comes with all the bits that wife is insiting on; sensors, Sat Navs.

My ex bought a Seat - on the basis that it was really a VW Polo for less money. Bad, bad, bad move. It wasn't too long before they stopped importing Seat into Australia. The resale value plummeted even more, and very difficult to sell. It can be hard enough to sell a more well-known car, let alone one that people are unlikely to be searching for on carsales com au. Skoda really isn't known by the general public - only VW fans and petrol heads who would turn their noses up at a granny car, anyway. I can't see Skoda lasting long - it's not as if there's saturation marketing. Even GM had to ditch Opel in Australia - now see how much an Opel is worth.
