While I was ordering my new Golf today, I had a quick look at the 3 at the same dealer. I found nothing to suggest the 3 is better than the Golf - especially the 3's strange touch screen that is stuck on top of the dash like an afterthought.
Looks kinda like it's been stuck on with double sided tape...

Hey mate, did you buy at Robina VW?
Afterthought? The reason it was placed there is that it's not too far away from the road. Having a satnav below the air vents is actually a considerable distance from the windscreen. You will need to look down, taking your eyes away from the road.
The MZD system is also miles ahead from what VW's got. Mazda is even opening the API to third party developers to create apps for the car. You can also export technical car info to a USB stick to give to your dealership. No need to take it in for a dealer to plug in VAGCOM or whatever just to check for errors.

I'm thinking the same, got my golf late Dec , though considered waiting for the new 3. Not a huge fan of its design, inside or out. The golf, to me anyway, is still much better in cabin material quality, feeling of solidity and early reviews say golf is still quieter.
The standard 5.8 inch infotainment screen could be bigger, it's laggy and the res is pretty crap that's the only minus for me when comparing the 2. Then again it's not like a tablet where you are looking at it the whole time while using. Having a look a the 3s manual, the VW MFD is much more comprehensive in info and warning displays as compensation.
Overall I'm really happy, just hope it's reliable.
