I do notice something similar (if my interpretation of your description is correct) with my car - but only when windows are down, and I feel like it's from the turbo...because everytime I clutch-in/let go of accelerator it's gone, and it's only in gear 2...Originally Posted by exzibit

I have also just discovered a rattle sound (ticking / think metal knocking) when accelerations from start and also happens when you accelerate from 1st gear to 4th gear.
The car has only done 700km. It is louder when engine is cold.
I did abit of digging around and I think it is the famous Waste Gate Rattle. Found more info on a South Africa vw forum.
I have book the car in for a checkup...so will update.

wys and firstvw, just came back from service to get the sound checked out, there is a clip that needs to be replaced by the there is no ETA on when the part will be available, it could be a month or it could be several months. Not happy that this is something that comes straight out of a factory manufactured car and obviously not an isolated incident. Apparently, it's not a waste gate rattle though but I didn't really understand the explanation to why there was a rattle. So new mk7 buyers be warned before you buy.

Got my golf mk7 check...wastegate rattle is confirmed, the "New" clip is coming on the 18th July, they have booked me in for a fitting of the new clip the week after.

Yep its engine braking......its a good thing. stops you burning through brake pads.
