    Mk7.5 R Tuning and Warranty...

    Hi all,

Been looking at Tuning my new 7.5 R very soon and wanted some advise on directions to take.

Ive had the car for now nearly 3 months, done 10,000kms in it and I'm enjoying it, but don't love it like I honestly loved my MK6. It just lacks something for me and I think its the tuning side of things!

I've already done some handling mods; springs, swaybars F&R, RS05RR's wrapped in AD08R's, but just finding it a bit lacking in the power department. I'm coming from a APR Stage 2 MK6 so this may be the reason I'm not excited about it atm.

My issue is warranty. Its my first brand new car, and I have my warranty remaining for the next 3 years pretty much. Ive read a few things about water pump failure, DSG issues and turbo failure on early MK7's, which may have been resolved for MK7.5's but still I'm paranoid about f*cking my car up. Ive been researching tuning options left, right and centre with no real outcome. Looked into Evolve Teknik as they offer a warranty but only for 30,000kms since work being done, and their results are lower than all others.

Can people enlighten me to any tuning options, or should I just do down the path of JB4 or something, or just stuff the warranty and get the car to the stage I know I'd enjoy immensely?

Are you expecting to do another 10,000k in the next 3 months?

Sounds like you have a long work commute and/or use the car for work. Is that right?

If yes to any, don't mod. In my opinion you are burning money, resalability and reliability.

Having said that, hard to put a price on what you enjoy if you have to drive it that much.

I will probably do that much, maybe even more to be honest! I do have a 90km per day commute though so that doesnt help, and I work 6 days a week + go for drives with mates of a night so it adds up fast haha!

you're flogging a dead horse champ this topic has been discussed for the last 4 years.

if you want to tune your car then theres a 99% chance youre going to void your warranty if something goes and they can link it to the tune... and a 50% chance if its something else and they happen to scan for codes and they just dont want to honour it... unless you have a friend who works at a VW dealer who can somehow have this overlooked for you

.. if you dont like 'lack of power' then u've bought the wrong car and clearly done very little research before your purchase.

JB4 is your only option if you want to try tuning without voiding your warranty but even that can bring up codes.

i also dont understand how your 220kw golf r mk7.5 lacks power when the mk7 has less KW and has plenty of power for daily and work commute.

I agree i have a budget for OMFG! moments if you don't have/can't afford to have money spare then don't tune
But seeing how you have had a tuned car before it's only a matter of time

You just want us to validate what you already know your going to do so do it and enjoy

Just keep on top of the maintenance and servicing change oil more often ect ect
Be hands on with your car and she will reward you

Hello MRT11.. We can offer you a Superchips/ Bluefin Remap for your Golf R...This gives you the option to remove the remap and put it back to standard form using the Bluefin handset ,which is ideal for any warranty issues it may have to return to the dealer for..

If you want extra performance but retain warranty the best way I know of is with a JB1 or (preferably) a JB4, which is similar but more sophisticated. Good useful power and torque added safely and you can completely remove the unit prior to servicing. Any ecu remap will leave a trace on the ecu (even if the tune is removed) which is flagged as TC1 by VW as a tuned vehicle putting warranty in jeopardy.

    You could look at ABT?

They will give you warranty for things that are voided by their tune for 2 years.

You will pay big dollars for it though!!!
