Have now done over 5000 kms and starting to hear knocking sounds from the rear end when driving at low speeds over rippled roads.
Have checked seats, spare wheel and loose items in boot and have eliminated all possibilities.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Have attached file so you can hear the sound for yourself, please listen with headphones and high volume.

I had this on my old 2015 Golf 7 Comfortline. Never got to bottom of it. Audible to just about everyone except VW technicians. There was a mark that developed on top of the rear bumper, directly under the edge/corner of the rear hatch when in closed position. My own theory was that when being driven on uneven or corrugated roads the rear hatch would “bounce” slightly on its hinges and thus knock on the top of the bumper (and cause the mark in the paint on the bumper top surface). No one at VW believed me or could be bothered to look into it. Eventually they fed me some BS about the sound being a normal operational characteristic of the rear suspension and I gave up. Interestingly I now have a 2018 Golf GTI which has the early stages of the mark appearing on the upper surface of the rear bumper but thus far I can’t hear the knocking sound.

Thanks for replying ABCD, I had the car checked by VW service and they diagnosed an issue and will be replacing the sway bar links.
