    MK7.5 GTI and WLTP

    Hi,

Does anyone know from what build date did the MK 7.5 GTI started having to meet the new WLTP emission targets? The WLTP effectively demanded the addition of a particulate filter on petroleum vehicles similar to what manufactuers had to do with diesel many moons ago.

    cheers

From what I've read post-WLTP petrol VWs destined for the Oz market don't get the GPF like most of the rest of the world do. I'm sure someone with a Golf R said they don't have the GPF but do have dual (port & direct) fuel injection. IIRC it is because our petrol has too much sulphur in it.

From my understanding WLTP is a consumption test and not an emission standard. our current standards are ADR79/04 (euro 5) for light vehicles and ADR 80/03 (euro 5 equivalent ) for heavy. Particulate filters have been a part of the diesel landscape since the introduction of euro 4. until the introduction of euro 6 and its equivalent ADR, AND the introduction of ultra low sulphur ULP we wont see particulate filters on petrol engines in Australia. That said Porsche trialled a 718 and 911 with European fuel systems and found it will tolerate our high sulphur ppm fuels, ULP is 500ppm, PLUP is 150ppm and ULSPULP is 50 ppm. The 50 ppm stuff is usually 98 from Singapore via BP and Shell. WLPT was introduced in Europe Aug 2017.

It is a consumption test but it is also used for emission testing. It replaced the NEDC as that was the one the emission defeat devices worked on.
